We use this as a dog bed next to my bed since our pup would rather sleep next to me instead of in his bed at the bottom of our bed. Since they space next to our bed doesn't allow for a dog bed without being in the way, this rug lays flat but is cushioned and silky enough that he loves sleeping on it.
