Sounds great with my uncompressed files. I was not a big user of music streaming sources before using the shanling M3 ultra, I have been able to use streaming services without issue. Other users have complained about the shanling music player that comes installed on the device. I have to admit that I never really tried to use that app; I almost immediately installed an app from the g-playstore and it works fine (I have settled on the neutron player; power amp gave screen resolution issues.) Anyway, I've gone through a few players in the past (cowons) and this one meets all my needs without issues. I would recommend it. (BTW, I connect to headphones using DACs such as ifi xdsd gryphon). The sound is average. If you use the balanced 4.4, it is way better and overall warm and balanced. The battery is not really great, in my view. I could get 5 hours using balanced 4.4. But my main reason for the two stars is the OS and how clumsy it can be, especially when using Apple Music as your source. I downloaded several albums and playlists to be physically on the device for traveling without wifi access. But there is some type of bug (I confess it can be an Apple issue) that the downloaded music would be visible and not visible randomly. Even after resetting the device several times, the issue would continue. Since I am an Apple Music subscriber and did not intend to switch to a different service, the only solution was to return the product to Amazon. Read more

I had the opportunity to acquire the product on sale, and I am very happy with it. I even decided to buy the protector for it. Something I liked is that it comes with a pre-installed screen protector and about 2 more replacements to change it when needed. It is a solid, rigid product; it is portable, but its dimensions make it somewhat robust, at least for me, as my first DAP was a Fiio M7. I saw previous complaints about language change issues. That wasn't a problem for me; it seems they worked on the user experience, and now it comes with a language selector once the device is started. I've only had my player since mid-April. I started having issues this past week. The battery would drain completely in just a few hours and would take a very long time to recharge. When it stopped working again yesterday I plugged in the USBC cable to charge again. This time I cannot restart the device, although you can see a bright blue light on the underside of the device. Does this mean just the screen is broken? And the only support available is an email address. Such a shame. This is not an inexpensive purchase and should not die with typical use after 4 months. I returned a Hiby R6 gen3 with Sd card issues, Sent back a Fiio M11 Plus it kept dropping my wifi signal I couldn't stream with it and I don't have cd's or physical media . Tried this M3 Ultra and it streams great, sounds good for its price range, no SD card problems so this small player really delivers for me. Read more

Sounds better than my btr7 connected to my iPhone 11 Pro. Dual dac mode seems to separate the sound better than single mode. I love the sound coming from this dap, slightly warm/neutral and very dynamic. Pairs great with my Dunu Falcon Ultra. Read more

I haven't had an iPod/MP3 player since about 2012? To give you an idea my last iPod was a Classic. I had been growing increasingly irritated with the fact all the phones I wanted did not come with enough storage to download songs, podcasts or audiobooks, so I thought it was time to try and look into getting another DAP of some kind. I was pretty overwhelmed with the selection out there (not to mention how insanely expensive everything is) and wasn't really sure where to start. I came across this particular model in my Amazon shopping session and after doing some thorough research decided to give it a try, and I am NOT disappointed. First of all I didn't know if I would even be able to tell a difference between the audio coming from my phone (Samsung S21+) and the Shanling. But let me tell you, there is a difference! It is so much more crisp and clear in a way I couldn't imagine. It doesn't come with much storage but that's easily fixed with a micro SD card. In short, I love it! And I love the fact that it's affordable. Would recommend to anyone who's looking to get a DAP of some kind but not wanting to break the bank. I've only had it going on three weeks now, but so far everything is working well. Haven't had any hiccups with the OS (yet) but if that changes I will update my review.
