Good idea but not worth $299

All plastic design feels cheap especially at $299 plus the grinding process takes way too long. Good idea but not worth $299. Read more

It's a great quality product - living in Canada however meant paying a lot more for this product, so I'm giving it 4 stars based on the fact that it's probably not worth the price I paid. If you're in the states, this is a fantastic product for the price. Read more

I could not love this machine any more

Pipo JonesOctober 25, 2016

I could not love this machine any more. Matcha tends to be expensive and once you open the package, the contents should be used soon or else the flavor will start to change. *IF* you get good quality green tea leaves, you can have this machine make your own matcha. Here's the caveat, though: your matcha will only be as good as the quality of your tea. I have been using a not so great brand of sencha that comes with pieces of stems chopped up with the tea leaves - before I put tea into this machine, I make sure to take out these pieces of stem. One other warning: be careful with the size of the "batch" of matcha you are trying to make. You have a miniature stone mill in this machine, which will overheat if you use it continuously. The machine may refuse to run the mill if you have just made more powdered tea than for about 5 cups. You will be forced to wait until the mill cools off a bit before you can use it again. Read more

Purchased this product for my mom's birthday and she is in love with the product! Tea definitely tastes a lot better. Cleaning can be a bit pain with all the small parts that needs to be disassembled and washed. But overall, a great product!! Read more

Matcha Made Easy

KortJuly 5, 2016

I love all kinds of tea and was thrilled to see that there is now a *Mr. Coffee* for matcha. While I really enjoy matcha tea, the process (while Zen) takes some time and keeps me from preparing it more often. This streamlines the process and give me the option to grind my own tea from leaves of my choosing (not just green). I've found the grinding process to be a little messy and somewhat time consuming, but not terrible. The Sharp unit does all of the whisking and pre-work, and it lets me make other hot or cold matcha drinks — or even just hot water. This is a solid, well-built unit and I expect it to last. The parts are plastic, but of a good grade. I was surprised that it didn’t take up more counter space, which I am glad for due to two coffee makers also sitting on the counter. There are a number of parts to clean up afterwards, but that is pretty straight forward and quick. Bear in mind that true matcha is stone ground from shade grown, de-stemmed and de-veined Tencha tea leaves. I don’t think the ones Sharp included with my unit quite qualify, but they were still good. Tencha leaves are not easy to locate but Adagio Tea currently carries them - though I don’t think it is de-stemmed. So you’ll likely be using Sencha leaves if you are grinding. In that case, I recommend either Sen-Cha Ryoku-Cha , Organic Matcha Green Tea Leaves , or Ocha & Co. Premium Organic Japanese Sencha Loose Leaf Green Tea . While you want to save some money, you don’t want to skimp on leaf quality. I recommend trying both the whole leaf tea that you then grind, and then compare it to quality pre-packaged matcha powder. For the latter, I recommend seeking out both culinary grade matcha like Tmatcha Organic Japanese Matcha Green Tea Powder and the more expensive but very good ceremonial grade matcha like PANATEA - Ceremonial Grade 100% Pure Japanese Matcha Green Tea . Culinary grade is fine for me and works well in smoothies and other recipes, but ceremonial grade does produce a wonderful Matcha. You have to decide if the price is worth it to you. Please remember use filtered or bottled water when brewing. Tap water can impart off-flavors to the tea. Thus far, I’m perfectly happy with the quality of the ground tea leaves from Tea-Cere machine. It is premium machine with a premium price tag but is a bargain compared to some espresso makers. I look forward to trying some chai teas in this unit as well. ~ Kort Read more
