ok --no joke. When you first turn on this massager, it is SUPER quiet. No mechanism sounds like they're struggling to operate. This is SERIOUS quiet operation. I had to double check to make sure it was plugged in and on. That's just how quiet it was. Then, I put my feet in and what a treat I got.... This massager provides a nice, subtle soothing heat. Unlike other foot massagers that I have tried that just have the massage balls just go around and around in the same direction , THIS one was different in the sense that it moved in a 'strategic' way to ensure that not only was your foot getting the feeling of slow, meticulous, deep tissue massage, but also reversing the motion, so that it massages both sides of your foot including the heel, sole and arches. I could genuinely feel the scraping, rolling and kneading. It was extremely effective at giving my feet a serious deep tissue massage and when I actually took my foot off of it afterwards, my feet were actually tingling in a good way which actually is an indication of increased blood flow to the foot. Proper blood flow ensures nerves and muscles work correctly, supporting balance and movement. I recommend this massager. The quality and operation--for me---was superb.
