I picked up this water filter straw for an upcoming hike along the Lake Michigan shoreline, and so far, I’m really happy with it. I haven’t taken it out on the trail yet, but after testing it at home, I feel confident it’s going to be a great piece of gear. What I like most is how lightweight and compact it is — it’s only about 6 inches long and weighs next to nothing, so it’s perfect for tossing into my daypack without adding bulk. My plan is to use it by filling a water bottle straight from streams or the lake, then sticking the straw in and sipping directly. That seems like the easiest and cleanest method, and it worked well when I tried it with a tap water bottle at home. I did a quick test using some not-so-great water (just to see!), and it came through clean with no grit or weird taste. The flow rate is surprisingly good — no squeezing or struggling to drink, just sip and go. This straw will definitely be part of my hiking kit, and I’ll likely keep another in my emergency bag.
