There are a few downsides... it leaks if you tip it, it doesn't hold a ton of water since the filter takes up room, and you do have to suck hard or squeeze the bottle a little since it has to make its way through the filter. But I used this for months while AirBnB hopping and it was great to have something so small to pack, and not have to buy bottled water or worry about the quality of the water wherever I went. Berkey filters are so much better than everything out there that I'll live with the few downside to get consistently great tasting quality water wherever I go. If you don't mind a little effort, you can squeeze it a dozen times and aim it into a cup to make coffee or tea. Read more
Broke the ring on top from extremely well traveled years-old bottle. This is a replacement. They used to give these out to Peace Corps volunteers, it was the go-to for filtered water - no mattered how polluted, worldwide. Have replaced the filter before long overseas trips. Old, still usable bottle with broken ring top, has been around the world literally half a dozen times (it will get donated 'cause broken ring top can catch on things when traveling). Read more

Extremely disappointed that the package was damaged and as a result damaged. I tried to use the product but I could not get the bottle stop leaking from the seal and tightly screwed on lid . It was extremely difficult to drink water from the bottle. I tried squeezing the bottle and tried to drink from the built in straw and became very frustrated because little to no water would come out of it. I would like a replacement bottle as soon as possible, as I have health condition that requires me to drink more than the recommended allowance of water. I bought this bottle because I love our big berkey filter and wanted a portable version for bike rides and traveling. The water tastes great, just like out of the big filter, but the bottle isn’t functional for on the go. It leaks when it’s not perfectly upright, and whenever there’s a change in elevation (and therefore pressure). Mine also started growing mold, but that’s probably due to where I current live in a hot and humid region of southern Spain, where everything gets moldy. If you live somewhere similar then keep that in mind … our big berkey has never grown mold, but the bottle has, even though I clean it, dry it and store it open. Read more

i've given up on it for now and moved over to an epic filter bottle because the berkey leaks so much. i. do not understand why berkey hasn't fixed the leaking problem yet. it's been known for YEARS that it leaks, and still.. they keep selling it as is. the bottle is useless in a flight. it leaks at the gasket/cap, and it leaks just sitting there when it's hot (not to mention when it is not upright. which makes it useless for backpacking or putting it into any bag.) come on berkey, it's a great filter, it's even a good bottle, just fix the gasket already. The first time I bought a Berkey Sport Water bottle, I bought 4 of them, for my husband, myself, and our two kids to take to Spain for my daughters wedding. We all drink filtered water, and who wants to have to buy, and carry water water, or worry about even finding it in another country? Any sink, or fountain, or even lake! is a filtered water source when you own a Berkey. It makes life so much easier, and the water tastes amazing. Once our trip was over, we just used it here at home instead of buying bottled water. Much better for our environment, first of all, and very convenient for all the things we like to do outside as well, especially hiking, camping, and kayaking. If I run out of water while I'm kayaking, I can just dip into the lake with my Berkey.....Presto!! Fresh, clean, water! Also, for you outdoor enthusiasts, did you know that most of the portable water filter systems do NOT filter out pharmaceuticals? Nope, not even the most popular, Sawyer Squeeze. So I feel really lucky to have found Berkey, and I've turned so many people on to them. If you're considering this purchase, you won't be sorry... P.S.
