More reliable than I thought

Lee RichardsonJune 22, 2024

Ok, hear me out. I know a lot of people say this brand is faulty, but I had this thing for almost 6 years and it still works PERFECTLY. And I still have space to spare. It’s been there for me for many deployments. It’s sturdy and has survived drops, and getting wet. Quality hardrive EDIT: as of Dec 2024 it finally died. It was my fault though I tried to forcefully remove it from my computer while it was attached with Velcro. I think I may have damaged it in the removal. The case is made of plastic and will flex which I believed damaged it. It no longer boots but I had it for almost 6+ years Read more

Had to buy 2

ron burroughsFebruary 16, 2020

This is my second one I've purchased. The 1st one I purchased was a 1TB for my Xbox1. Worked great and still does. Then came time for my upgrade to Xbox1X. Plug and play. It took all my games and apps right over to my new Xbox1X no problem. Quick and simple. Due to wanting all my games, and apps on my new Xbox1X I baught a 5TB. And it is awesome. I'm still using the 1 TB for my apps on my Xbox1, but the 5 TB is great for my new Xbox1X. I will be purchasing from them again if there doesn't have any complications. Great product for gaming. One of the most durable travel hard drives I have ever used!!!

JustMeJuly 6, 2019

I travel to Europe regularly sometimes for months. While I have internet access it is through my mobile/cell phone. Streaming videos is just not an option. I have had this external disk drive connected to my NAS for several months copying files to it as new media is added to the NAS, which means it has been running continuously for several months. This may be a true test of the durability of the drive. The unit is well designed with space to store the USB cable so it's always available. I keep the original cable attached to the drive when I'm using it at home, you may want to put a velcro cable tie around the drive when travleing to make sure the USB doesn't get pulled off, But I don't think this is necessary. I will buy a 2 more units to store important data in a safe deposit box and swap them out regularly. GREAT UNIT. Read more

Caution for Laptop Users - UPDATED

S. KellerJune 21, 2019

Excellent drive, has made a few trips with me now with no issues whatsoever. However - the included USB cable is improperly shielded. Not an issue ordinarily - unless you're on a laptop and using a wireless mouse. This thing interferes with my wireless mouse every time Windows writes to it. Not a deal breaker, certainly, but definitely annoying. UPDATE - Lasted 3 years, 3 months, then the click-click of death. Not a problem, as I've been using SyncToy to mirror it to another drive, but I'm still sad to see it go. Worked flawlessly for 3 years, through multiple flights, as a live-drive for LightRoom photo work. This should give you a bench for how long you can expect this drive to last with a moderately heavy workload. Read more

Nice drive!

OuttaHandNovember 1, 2023

Seems quite sturdy and well built. Plugged into my Mac and it was immediately recognized. I put it to work right away with no issues. The groove on the outside that is supposed to hold the USB cable is a joke. The cable barely fits in it and falls out easily. Read more

MASSIVE STORAGE SPACE AND GREAT DURABILITY! EXCELLENT X-DRIVE FOR TRAVEL!

CustomerNovember 2, 2016

Awesome! Massive storage and super durable! Thank you! My only issue I have is that for some reason my tablet, 1st generation Surface RT, does not like communicating with this x-drive... must be that it's too advanced for my old tablet (it's sad to say an electronic is old when it's only 3 years old, but nowadays electronics are old in less than 6 mos. when the new item comes out). SO ABSOLUTELY NO COMPLAINTS FROM ME ABOUT THE STORAGE OR DURABILITY OF THIS UNIT. This is great for travel, cuz you can't always trust your stuff to properly back up to your cloud from your phone or your camera even if it is set up to do so, cuz most internet abroad is miserably slow.... I say this after coming off of 2 years of travel to 6 continents and 16 countries and over 130 cities. And sadly, 2 days after I returned I was mugged at knife point and my phone was stolen and possibly a huge chunk of my pics/videos are lost cuz the phone was having major issues backing up to the cloud cuz of connectivity issues every day (I tried both Drop Box and One Cloud to no real avail, just pics pushed through occasionally but the videos didn't want to) so having an x-drive with you to back up to at the end of the day, is well worth it! Just make sure you have a tablet or laptop that isn't a dinosaur and can properly back up to the xdrive (before you leave home). Read more

What is Shockproof or Armored About a Drive That Dies in Two Days

RFMMay 18, 2021

Bought this as regular backup that my people could use to back up files directly rather than upload to our network and then backup. Got 2tb on it in two days and it died. Nothing but the message there is an I/O error. Left it sit for two hours and it started working again, but I've told people not to trust it. I would return it but it contains proprietary client information and unless we did a complete format we would not be comfortable having it go anywhere outside our offices. Doing a complete format would also take several hours of a computer time. Also the build quality is bad - see photo - the supplied wire holders are useless and always falling off the unit. Would not recommend unless you can afford to lose the information on the drive. UPDATE-Gave it to one of my IT people and she came back this morning saying, after testing the problem probably is the unit is overheating. We were trying to copy large files so the unit does not have time to cool down between files. Unit is sealed (I assume for waterproofing, but there is till an open USB port) and made all from plastic. So heat can't get out, nor is plastic a good heat conductor to transfer heat to air around. She got it to work again by wrapping it in one of those cold pack you use for sprains, but that was only temporary also since the cold pack melts after 20-30 minutes, then you have to wait to re-freeze the pack.. Finally came upon the solution you can see in the photo attached. Placed it directly in front of a rack fan we had. With this it seems to write steadily for about 30 minutes. Can't say if it is this unit particularly or a design flaw. We will try today to get information off, reformat, and return. Read more
