i'm not going too deep into this. a comparable device can be diy built from a bottle and dryer sheets. I scoffed at that concept until I witnessed it. It did not merely mask the smell, but eliminated any smoke odor. Smoke came out, and I smelled it in awe as it had no smoke smell. Smoke that doesn't smell like smoke. crazy. This is a heartier solution. Its built to last a while, and its worked under very limited use for at least a couple months now. If you indulge in such a way that allows second stream smoke, you will not be pleased. This only filters the smoke you exhale. Pipes can control second stream smoke if you learn to use them with that concept in mind. If you are smoking a paper cigarette, it will likely cut down on odor, but if you are aiming for all or nothing this will not mask your use of substances that produce smoke. If you are consuming paper cigarettes, that is. This is also good for vaping. Vapers will say that vape doesn't need filtering because there is no smell. This is not true. The smell is attenuated but also different and it depends on the vitality of the material you are using. I breathe in through my nose and exhale three times, so that no traces of smoke escape from my lungs nose or pharynx. Inhale through the nose, exhale through the mouth, do not break contact with the device, press solidly into one's lips, and exhale. After 3 exhalations, I cap the mouth side of the device because a nominal odor is present on that side. It is weak, but it is there. In addition to this, if you still produce an odor, a successful technique is to get a skillet and put a teaspoon of olive oil in it and turn the burner on high. Or take an non stick oil spray and coat the burner in an oven and turn in on high. If using the oven be careful that carbon deposits due not catch fire. If they do, a little water will do just fine. This will vaporize the oil which has a very effective attenuative effect on smoke odors. This will not prevent long term odors, but its good in a pinch. It helps if you are known to actually cook, as many forms of cooking involve browning and blackening meats. Read more

Works great. It’s not too big and seems durable for the price. Just open the caps at then end and you’re ready to use! Leaves very little smell! Read more

They do an INSANE job at reducing the smoke to nearly zero and eliminating most of the odor that comes along with it. My only real problem is manufacturing inconsistencies. Some of them I can order and they’ll last 2-3 months and others plug up within a couple weeks with no difference in the amount I’m using them. My only other gripe is I wish the filters were replaceable so we could reduce the amount of plastic waste. Otherwise they are damn good at what they do! Read more

I have been smoking and vaping for over 15 years and have used many a spoof to cover my tracks. I now only vape but this thing still works just as well if not better with vapor. Moving anywhere near someone who doesn't smoke can be stressful for me but especially if I know I won't have the opportunity to go outdoors. In the past, this would lead me to use a spoof; generally a Poland spring bottle with lots of tiny pin holes on the bottom filled with drier sheets, ozium or what ever helps eliminate smoke. The problem with spoofs is they really don't work. Their also pretty irritating to make as you need to find the right size bottle, then finding the filler is even more frustrating as drier sheets are not always handy. Ontop of all that, you need to use it several times to get the airflow right and to figure out how much, if any, smoke it removes. Normally this results in air that smells both like Lysol and weed but is rarely effective. (it also begs the question.."Why does it smell like Lysol and weed in here?") With the smoke buddy, i can take a huge, milky bag of volcano vapor and the result will be no smell in the room. Its pretty amazing to see a bag full of vapor just disappear as it goes through the device. I'm pretty sure the "magic" inside is just activated carbon as i am familiar with its carbon scrubbing attributes but man, does it ever work! The most smoke or vapor you'll see will undoubtedly come from the gap between the plastic mouthpiece and your mouth. It can be a bit tricky to get it to seal properly (especially if you have a beard) but if you stick your lips out just right, absolutely nothing will come out the other end. This thing is so effective, its a MUST have if you light up in the car. You'll feel just as stupid as i did once you realize this things been around while you've been doing arts and crafts with water bottles and drier sheets all these years! Read more

There is somewhat of a design flaw with this product which makes it a less-than-perfect solution for containing smoke. The issue is that the mouthpiece, or the end where you blow the smoke into, is not directly connected to the filter itself. This empty space between your mouth and the filter fills up with smoke (obviously) but that smoke never reaches the filter so when you move the device away from your mouth, the smoke just escapes from the device without ever having been filtered. It isn’t a lot of smoke, but it’s enough smoke to be detectable, especially if you are using it multiple times in one sitting. I tried to blow as hard as I could into the device to “force” that last bit of smoke into the filter, but it didn’t work. This actually made things messy because apparently when I was exhaling as hard as I could, I was also blowing saliva into the device or something, because it eventually became so filled with drool that it was leaking out the other end. Gross! Anyways, this product is pretty useful for the most part, it definitely helped immensely to keep the room somewhat free of smoke, but I’d sit next to an open window just to be sure. If you’re looking for something 100% effective, this isn’t it. But if 98% effective is sufficient enough for your needs, buy it. Read more
