After having owned this pen for 1.5 years, I still love it! And, it still looks great even after being carried every day. The cap does tend to unscrew, but I added a small amount of Teflon tape and tightened it down, and it hasn't budged in the last 2 months. I was able to use a buffing wheel to all but erase the brand name from the clip. I really like the pen, and it will take the pilot V5 refills, which is my preferred ink. It is far too heavy to use for long periods of writing, but for the short periods I would use it, I like that it's heavy and classy looking. I also like that you can rotate the clip to either side of the bolt. As a lefty, that was important for me. All in all, very well made pen! Just want people to know what they are buying. Read more

This is the pen I've been searching for for literally years: a nice-looking, quality rectractable pen that accepts pilot V7 rollerball refills. The only drawback is its heavy weight. But if that isn't an issue for you, this is a terrific pen. Read more

I was looking for a bolt-action pen, but didn't really want to pay $100 for fancy titanium (that just seems excessive for a pen I may very well lose). This pen, for the price, is a great option. The machining is really good and the pen. It doesn't look or feel cheap, at all. The one thing I noticed is the weight of the pen. It's definitely NOT made of titanium and, being stainless steel, it's a weighty pen and a bit top-heavy. The bolt actuates nicely and smoothly and it's satisfying to click over and over. The G2 refill writes smoothly and clearly and is cheap and easy to refill. Bottom line, if you're looking for a quality bolt-action pen, I think this is a good option. Read more

Pen feels great, feels expensive, not to mention I get tons of compliments on how heavy and how well it writes. Love the fact that I’ve had it for almost a year and it’s compatible with the Pilot ink refills and it’s thin unlike other brands that are bulky. Would love it even more if this particular design had a titanium option. But other than that this is an amazing pen. Read more

I have to complement Smootherpro here. This pen is an exceptional value. It's well built and designed using heavy grade, high quality materials to give you an outstanding writing experience. I was looking for another bolt action pen that uses Pilot G2 refills and Smootherpro is actually one of the only good options out there besides Tactile Turn of course. The action is super smooth due to the stainless steel build, which feels very substantial in the hand. This is a full size pen at 5.5 inches and does have a muted glass breaker on the top. This isn't a thin pen but is very similar to a Tactile Turn in thickness, I've got 12 bolt action pens in my collection and this Smootherpro is as good as any of them from any OEM. This pen has my highest recommendation. These will make great gifts and I will be purchasing more. Read more

The pen is well-made and very heavy compared to other SmoothPro pens. This pen is also too "top-heavy" and isn't recommended if you want to use it for writing. Fatigue sets in shortly after holding the pen upright. Maybe this is also due to a lack of grip at the base or the overall diameter that's nearly the size of a Sharpie marker with considerably more mass. A good pen to stow in the car, jot quick notes, but certainly not comfortable for everyday use or carry. It's too heavy. Read more

This is my absolute favorite pen that I've ever owned or used. Let me qualify that by pointing out that I've been hooked on G2's since I first used one in middle school. Since then, if I can't put a 0.5 G2 refill in it, I don't buy the pen. That said, this one is my favorite of the 15 or so that I've tried so far... and ironically one of the cheaper ones. I absolutely love the weight of it. It has heft. It's Stainless. You can't get much more durable, for a writing utensil, than Stainless Steel. It doesn't crack or chip if you accidentally drop it. It chips the damn concrete! LOL My one and only complaint about this pen is that it can be a bit slippery sometimes. If I could get this exact pen, but with some sort of texturing in the grip area, it'd be perfect. I bought one of the other pens from this company thinking it was just that, but it turned out to be aluminum. It's spiffy, but not like this SS. Gave that one to a friend. Read more

Ok, I'm really confused as to why this pen isn't more popular and have hundreds of reviews. I spent at least 3 months researching and actually purchasing various machined and weighted pens in order to fulfill the following criteria: 1. Accept standard Pilot G2 refills 2. Has good weight 3. Not the short 4.5" length. 4. Built to last 5. Clean lines without gimmicky cuts/lines/ridges 6. Has that satisfying click 7. Has a clip that won't bend or slip off 8. Comes in a slick matte black color I'm fairly certain I found the perfect pen but it was $125... which is ridiculous considering the chances of losing a pen while traveling and exploring the world is quite high. So when I came across this $25 sucker, I was really skeptical and bought it assuming I would have to gift it away and continue my search. But it in theory met all my criteria except for the matte black finish. So I get it eventually and right away this felt amazing in my hands. If you're dabbling into pricey writing tools, start with this first and tell me it's worth spending 5x more for something that's better branded and marketed but essentially does the same thing. I'm not a fan of the "glass breaking" pointed top but it's easily ignored and forgotten. I can see myself poking mysekf trying to grab it out of my pocket so I may sand it down a hair to make it blunt. If you're looking for a personal "for-life" pen or a solid gift for a professional, student, or EDC-nerd, then this is a solid start. I can already see my friends loving to borrow this and "losing" it.... Read more
