The sonoff zigbee smart plug worked like a charm. It paired easily, although in my case, the plug was near a hub, so YMMV. We've used it for a few months without any issues. It turns on within less than a second of activating it in home assistant, and it seems well made. You can hear an audible click when it turns on, though, but I think ultimately this is a drawback of all such devices that likely utilize a contactor to flip the switch. It's not really noticeable, but if you're easily bothered by the click, it might be annoying Read more

18Sep23, I am updating my review giving the product 5 stars. The alleged "failure" mentioned in my original review appears to NOT be problem with the Sonoff 40ZBTB Lite but a strange issue within the ZigBee2MQTT add-on used with the Home Assistant software. It is a bit too involved to fully describe here but the key information is that when the native ZHA networking was used the Sonoff smart plug worked perfectly. With this information in mind, I completely removed the MQTT broker and the ZigBee2MQTT add-on from Home Assistant. Then, re-downloaded these two add-on, reconfigured and the smart plug worked as expected. I provide this information in case it can help someone else. Ignore this original review-> I bought the Sonoff S40ZBTB Lite to add additional range to my expanding Zigbee network (mostly Sonoff devices) as it is a repeater as well as a smart outlet. When first installed it paired quickly with the Sonoff Zigbee dongle I am using and worked well for 3 months and then stopped communicating with the Zigbee coordinator. All attempts to "pair" this device have failed. I was using this with "Home Assistant" but tried Sonoff's eWeLink app, this also failed to link up with the device. I contacted Sonoff support but have received no help from them ___so far__. If Sonoff support does reply and resolved the problem I will edit this review with any new information. But for now, I am going with a different manufacturer. Read more

Updated review from 5 stars to 4. Here's why: I recently had a power failure. My Soniff Zigbee smart plug was switched on before the power failure, but when the electricity came back on, the smart plug did not. The equipment plugged into it obviously did not, and could not be turned on automatically. There is no option to enable the smart plug to return to the on state after the power came back on. On further research, I found the other brands of smart plugs I own operate similarly, as do most* of my smart switches, so generally speaking, this is a standard for such devices. '> *Most. * I have a couple of Zooz Z-Wave smart switches, and remembered that they have a parameter to choose the recovery state if power outage occurs. My gas fireplace does NOT automatically come back on after power comes back on after an outage, but I could program it to if I wished. After my recent problem, I shopped for a Zooz Z-wave smart plug and found that it does have a programmable parameter for its recovery state after a power outage. So the 5 star rating goes to Zooz. Sonoff is dropped to 4 stars. Original review, still valid: Paired right away as a generic plug in my Hubitat Elevation hub. No issues. Great price. Read more

I recently started a Zigbee network in my house, using a Sonoff 3.0 USB dongle as my coordinator (Zigbee2MQTT on my QNAP NAS > Home Assistant). I wanted some repeaters/routers so my sensors on the other side of the house had a good signal. I tried purchasing both the S31 Lite and the S40 Lite, and both work very well with the latest version of Zigbee2MQTT (automatically recognized and paired, no need to edit your YAML file). They paired immediately as routers, then I reset my sensors and allowed joining specifically to these smart plugs. The signal strength isn't the greatest between these and my coordinator, but I have multiple walls between them (coordinator is in a cluttered closet). The repairing my sensors to the routers has increased my LQI on them. I was hesitant to get these at first, because there are a lot of inconsistent reviews on devices serving as Zigbee routers. But they were on sale, so I bought two S31 Lites and one S40 Lite, and all three work immediately. Very happy with the purchase considering the low cost, ease of pairing, and effectiveness as routers. Recommended for anyone looking to extend their Zigbee range using the same setup as me. Read more

It was cake to add to Home Assistant, it immediately worked and was easy to use. I have other Sonoff products that have been going for months (or years) and have faith this one will be just as reliable. Read more

I've been satisfied with this plug. The shed is approximately 125 feet (or more) from the garage which has Zigbee router. This plug connects just fine and seems to be withstanding the outside temps. We'll see if this survives the winter Read more

S40 is easy to pair and generally works well as a plug switch. I mainly bought 2 of these to use as repeaters. I have found repeating and transmitting performance to be poor regardless of placement causing periodic issues with sensors connected though this repeater. I have infrequent disconnects from my hub with a blinking green light on the switch. Last night a S40 disconnect thew all connected sensors offline and caused a ‘open’ signal for my front door which triggered my security alarm. Not good. Need something that performs better and is more reliable as a repeater. Read more
