The remote that was sent could not operate the machine. They sent me a new universal remote that was still in the package and it could not be linked to the machine. We were finally able to turn the machine on without the remote but it would not work. Needless to say, I had to return it. Read more
I would have given this 5 stars except for the remote control which didn't work with the unit. The Sony RDR-VX500 unit did not come with the original remote. Instead, an RCA universal remote was supplied with the unit. I spent an entire day (many hours) going through every code possible to get the universal remote paired with the unit - to no avail. Since I bought this RDR-VX500 DVD/VCR combo to transfer my VHS tapes to DVD, not having a working remote rendered the unit useless for this purpose because you can't FINALIZE the DVD without a remote (only the remote can activate the menu system to Finalize the disc). It was odd that the unit did not have an HDMI connector and yet there was an HDMI cable in the box. The unit only has video output through S-video or Component Video (RCA) connectors. An RCA cable was supplied. Update (a couple of weeks later): I wrote the 2-Star review above but am updating to 5 Stars because the company reached out to me without delay and sent me a remote that works with this unit. Their customer service was the best experience ever - understood the problem and fixed it promptly. Read more
