I got this mainly for shade in the backyard, and the size is definitely generous. Once opened, it covers a large area, enough for a table and several chairs. Assembly wasn’t too difficult, though having two people helps. With the base filled, it feels stable under normal wind conditions. The fabric feels fairly thick and provides good shade, and the color looks close to what’s shown online. Opening and closing is smooth, but because of the size, moving it around takes a bit of care. I was excited to find this umbrella on sale, as we’d been looking for something to give shade to the cooking area of our new patio, that would match the rest of our decor - and our other umbrellas in the same space. This Sophia & William 15ft Umbrella with Base is the perfect solution until we build an awning in the future. I purchased in “Ivory White” color and it coordinates perfectly with our other umbrellas by other Amazon brands. It came in a very large box with all the necessary parts and instructional pictorial - not my favorite instructional, but luckily assembly is simple and straightforward, and the Mr had it together in a matter of minutes (while I was yelling at him to look at the instruction *picture book* haha). I like that it features a pin to keep this massive 3-fold umbrella up in case the mechanism fails. This is an important safety feature and I was pleased to see it included here. The base is interesting and comes with two rectangular nylon bags/pouches(?) to hold sand. As you can see in my video, we opted to just drop 3 70-lb bags into the base and put the cover over it all, filling up those included bags seemed messy and unnecessary with the addition of the large base cover (no on can see what’s under it). So far she’s already weathered a massive two-day southern rainstorm - we put the canopy down and tied it securely. The base didn’t budge and the umbrella was perfect when the sun eventually came out. Now, here’s the CON: the fabric quality is really lacking. It’s very thin, thinner than my other “economy” umbrella purchased from Amazon. It shows every bird poop or whatever else drops/falls on top of the canopy very clearly. I understand all light umbrellas kind of do that, but this is really transparent. Oddly, it does still produce decent shade, however, I can assume the UPV protection to be less under this thin fabric (especially in this light of a color), so remember to wear your sunscreen when you are under this thing because UV rays are probably zipping right through this thing. As someone who has been through basal cell skin cancer, I consider this an important issue. Further, it doesn’t clean well. I tried to wipe off some bird poop in the same manner as my other (also “cream”) umbrellas, and it just made a dingy mess on this one. I used some Oxyclean on those spots and now I can see where I used it, too, though the spots do look better than the darker bird poop stains. I deducted a star for the fabric quality because it truly is lacking. Ultimately, I gave this 4 stars for price (that I paid *on sale*), basic functionality, color, and durability of the BUILD of the umbrella. I’m very happy with this patio umbrella. Setup was fast and easy, and the built-in crank opens and closes smoothly with little effort. I chose this umbrella mainly because of the generous size, and it has been perfect for our space. One side covers our outdoor table and chairs, while the other side extends over part of the yard, creating a shaded area where the kids can play out of the direct sun. The extra coverage has been a great bonus and exactly what we were looking for. So far, I’m very pleased with this purchase. With weighted bags on the base, it feels stable and secure.
