I’ve put about 20 hours in and am loving it. An interesting take on Metroivania with unique combat. While not fully open with a map, each stage does have branching paths and hidden areas that you will be able to access as you upgrade your skills and equipment. Challenging and fun. Read more
A Stylish and Action-Packed Revival with a Few Missed Opportunities Space Adventure Cobra: The Awakening for Nintendo Switch brings the iconic 1980s space outlaw back in stunning fashion. It’s a game that successfully captures the spirit of the original anime and manga — stylish, over-the-top, and filled with fast-paced sci-fi action. From the moment Cobra makes his grand entrance, cigar in hand and Psycho-Gun blazing, it’s clear this is a love letter to longtime fans and a bold introduction for newcomers. Visually, the game looks fantastic on the Switch. The cel-shaded art style pays perfect homage to the classic anime aesthetic, with smooth animation and richly detailed environments. From the neon-lit galactic cities to the desolate alien wastelands, each level feels distinct and full of life. The cutscenes, featuring voice acting in both Japanese and English, add cinematic flair that enhances the narrative and character development. Gameplay blends third-person shooting, exploration, and light RPG mechanics. Cobra’s Psycho-Gun is a joy to use — customizable and powerful, with several upgrade paths that encourage experimentation. Combat feels fast and fluid, and boss fights stand out for their creativity and spectacle. There’s also a stealth component that adds variety to missions, letting you approach some objectives more strategically rather than always going in guns blazing. The story is a solid mix of classic space opera and noir adventure, with plenty of humor, charm, and action-packed twists. Cobra’s roguish personality shines throughout, and the game does a great job balancing nostalgia with new lore that expands the universe. The soundtrack deserves special mention — a synth-heavy score that perfectly fits the retro-futuristic vibe and keeps the momentum going. However, the game isn’t without flaws. Some technical hiccups, such as occasional frame drops and texture pop-ins, can be distracting during intense battles. A few missions feel padded with repetitive enemy encounters, and the camera can be tricky to manage in tighter spaces. While the story is entertaining, certain plot points feel rushed, leaving some side characters underdeveloped. Despite these issues, Space Adventure Cobra: The Awakening stands as an exciting and stylish comeback for a cult classic hero. It’s a visually striking, action-heavy ride that respects its roots while bringing enough modern flair to feel fresh. For fans of sci-fi adventures, retro anime, or fast-paced shooters with personality, this one is absolutely worth the journey through the stars. Read more

Good game but extremely hard. If you have patience and determination. You may pull through, wished it had switch 2 upgrade included but maybe later it will get one. Read more

Usual from Microids, mostly bland or has design with a few surprisingly good parts. Should have been half the price, per usual for pub. Read more
