Incredible!

It doesn’t matter if you get the hawkbill blade, the wharncliffe, the original salt modified drop point...these are such great knives. Strong, easy to use back lock, totally ambidextrous, super lightweight, very easy one hand opening, great craftsmanship and quality, and an amazing steel! They come sharp and rust proof. I’ve used these in dirty, salty environments for years. Although they sometimes will stain after a lot of sweat (I mean a lot) and no care or cleaning at all (I mean no cleaning, not even wiping them), they do not seem to rust or pit. And staining is very minimal and I only experienced the stains on very, very old original H1 models. Plus, knives are tools and are meant for use and wear. Don’t worry if the finish isn’t perfect, who would want that anyway?! 😁 For the money, these are seriously great knives that are durable and solid. They will last years for sure! Also, this steel is not only rustproof, it is tough and will work harden. By tough, I mean the blade won’t chip easily and it can be torqued or twisted some without fear of breakage - not that I’d ever suggest doing that! But if you hit a staple or rock or nail by accident, it’s less likely to chip or experience serious damage. By work hardened I mean the more you sharpen this steel and the more abrasive materials you cut with this thing, the harder the edge will become and the longer it’ll stay sharp! I’m no expert, that’s my take from reading about it. Also, they say the serrated versions stay sharp FOREVER! The plain edge doesn’t perform like the serrated. Just buy it! Cut stuff with it. Great quality and perfect for what I needed.

I have lots of knives but bought this one for running as a potential self defense tool because it is lightweight and stainless. It is perfect to attach to thin running shorts because sweat won't hurt it and you don't even notice you are wearing it. Also it is a great every day carry knife. Life is too short to buy cheap knives. Spyderco is a great brand. Read more

AMAZING H1 blade! Unremarkable handle & pivot action

EDIT after several months of carry and use: My overall impressions of this SEKI-CITY folder have indeed improved! Star added. The handle and, especially, the flex-y pivot action are still both uninspiring and underwhelming, BUT the knife has held up beautifully in every day carry and mundane usage. I have been pleasantly surprised. But I am mainly here to complain about a NEW GRIPE! The inadequate retention of the stock pocket clip! Early on, the knife literally slipped free of my pocket altogether — two different times. After the second time of the knife falling out of my pocket, I investigated after-market deep carry clips. The photos show the one (in distressed titanium) that I settled on. I LOVE this full length, deep carry clip! Every Salt 2 should come with deep carry pocket retention. I'm purposely not mentioning the brand of the clip because you can find it yourself with a little searching (I am NOT affiliated with any after-market company). Of course, I hated spending even MORE money on an already (over) pricey blade. But what was I to do? Wait till I LOST the knife for good? It was going to happen... and possibly same for you. So yeah, you're going to end up with a $150 modded H1 Spyderco at the end of this journey. This is my brutally honest assessment of this $100 knife: $95 H1 blade; $3 handle; $2 construction. You decide if it's worth it. For VERY light-duty use, it's probably fine. But this Salt 2 slicer should have absolutely been designed with liners for blade rigidity and handle/pivot strength; as it is, the blade flexes and torques noticeably side to side. And for $100, the action is only on par with a gas station folder. But the blade is other-worldly sharp and beautifully designed. I would only have added a finger coil, if it were up to me. I suppose I'll keep this one, but with a lot less joy than I was hoping for. Read more

Razor sharp. Feels really good in the hand.

It's extremely light weight but doesn't feel fragile. I have big hands so I wasn't sure what to expect from the knife, but the handle gives you plenty to grip on to. While the handle is long enough to grip its slender enough that a smaller hand won't have trouble gripping it. Read more
