First of all, there are no instructions. You have to look back to the amazon page. It's simple enough to use. We tried sharpening a rather dull knife. Before we sharpened it, we cut the edge of the cardboard box to see if we could gauge any improvements. After sharpening a number of times, trying both fast and slowly, we could see no improvements in sharpness. We tried quite a number of times, and never saw an improvement. When I examined the mechanism that's supposed to sharpen the blade, I really couldn't account for how two flat pieces of metal crossed together can properly sharpen a knife. It's basically junk.
