Probably not your typical review for this product, but I am a late-30s mom who thinks she "used to be cool." 11 years and three kids down the road, I am coming back into my own, have gotten somewhat back into shape, am fighting the slow and inevitable drift into "mom style," and told my husband that I wanted a thick "gangsta" chain. I found a choker with this chain style at the infamous shop for teens and 20-somethings that old-ladies-who-think-they-used-to-be-cool sometimes still browse through on occasion, but the thing was made to fit a 2-year old's neck. After some web-searching, and a quick decision that paying for a full silver version is just nutso crazy, my husband suggested I try this stainless steel version first to see if I liked the style before shelling out for silver. Turns out that was a great decision. For a MUCH more reasonable price, I was able to get the exact style and size I wanted. I wanted to make sure it was just the right thickness and length, and this listing had plenty of options. I ordered the 9mm 20" and I love it. It's got a heaviness, but not so much that it's irritating. I'm happy to report, and a little surprised, that it doesn't get tangled in my hair or rip my hair out. The only difference between this and the one I initially found is that this is a darker silver shade, so it's not going to be super bright flashy like some of the plated ones, or real silver. But, I actually don't mind the darker shade since I think it matches some of my other jewelry. The chain came in a little pouch, and my husband was able to use a polishing cloth to shine it up a bit. The ONLY thing I don't love about it is that the closing ring on it is kinda weak and thin, so it can be slightly tricky to get hooked and probably isn't the strongest. I was immediately impressed by the weight of it. The plating is a beautiful color and appears thickly applied. It has a liquid shine to it. The links fall evenly and I can just pull my hand along it smoothly. I was happy to see the 36” length offered because I intend to use it as a jacket weight chain for sewing. But it is so beautiful I might have to just wear it instead! At this price point I can buy another one for my sewing. Very good value and the quality looks like it is worth many times the price. I am actually quite impressed with this chain. The links are tight (close to eachother) and rounded off like a true cuban link chain. I was skeptical as many Amazon purchases of cuban link chains have been bad and not what was advertised... but this one definitely is a good buy! 7mm 18inch was the perfect size. First what look r u going for? Thin or thick. The pic of the hand is inaccurate. The links r tighter( better looking) the size that’s almost spot on is the generic type of photo with them all lined up saying 7’m,9mm ext. I held my 7mm to after enlarging pic it’s almost exact thickness. Lil thinner. So use that. Ok go longer then u think. Why? If u have set of plyers u can remove easy. U can’t add any. Ok the only con to this chain.( fixable I’m good with jewelry) the circle that holds the lobster claw to the chain is so think it will with a lil tug stretch it and u won’t realize till it slips out. Simple fix. Get a stronger cirlce. Off old jewelry he’ll even H and M for men’s sells stainless wrist chains and they r 3 pack and each has a circle u can steel off it thas double thickness. Use ur plyers swap that. Next u want this chain to look real. By real I mean white gold or platinum. In 30 min I made this chain ( not pricky which it is if u have even 4 day non shaved chest hair it will catch. This is what I do. I use my electric drill.( if u own a buffing wheel u can use that) throw on tick latex gloves. Take ur electric( batt ones idc wat brand can’t handle the high rpm so for 60 Bux I got a 2500rpm electric drill. Home Depot or of course amazon. What I buy is a set of buffing wheels not the spongy car ones. One looks like denim( use that first with the white rouge stick. And buff it on high. Slowly!!wrap it around ur finger if u don’t pay attention it will wrap around the wheel and send the chain flying so wrap it around glove do 1/2 in at a time. After u do both side see It’s polished. Then get the soft cotton one( finish pad) and polish it apple white rouge to that( as drill spills hold stick for 3-5 sec thas all u need.) then repeat first step and it will come out like the shiniest chain. It turns a decent shine to wait is that platinum? White gold? I do this to my watches and everything so yes it is my thing I’m good at it but if u want to not spend 6k on. White gold chain ( that will fade every 2 yrs need to be replated) or platinum taking 10k easy for 7mm In 32 god prob more much more. But this is my tip with stainless. And rem when it’s at that level of shine don’t touch it before u go out use simple dish soap and warm water or and it will shine. I’ll wanna wash it after ur polishing GOOD! To remove black dust from buffing. This is key I’ve taken a brushed Mogado stainless steel and turned a 1200 watch into a watch that looks like platinum. If ur willing to do the work. This is wat u do. When I was done it smoothed the burs off is didn’t prink me. Totally diff chain. Good luck it jus needs tlc. REM u can remove links so go longer price isn’t diff really. Longest comment I have left. I’m passing on something I taught myself polishing headlights the same Method. I said hmmm maybe my jewelry. It works so well but u need a few things. Even with price of drill pads rouge And stick ur about 90 Bux name one chain u can get that looks like it’s thousands of dollars for 10 Bux and with the method I said and parts look like platinum. Jus try new stuff im not diff Then any of u I jus am willing to try and learn and it pays off. As is the chain will prick ur hair as i said and has a decent shine. This is a great purchase. we purchased it for our son’s gift and this was his first piece of jewelry. We didn’t want to spend a lot of money in case he lost it, or broke it.
