Charged properly. Was dead the next time I tried to turn it on to check the battery indicator. Recharged & put in cold car two nights but Stanley said that it shouldn't be totally dead that soon. Recharged again & next day battery power showed one dot. Did not jump ANYTHING. Stanley's warranty takes over once Scamazons;) runs out & you pay to ship the heavy thing back, so adds to the cost of the hunk of rocks you have to lug around for days trying to see if it would work. Amazon did not have a replacement option & would've been nice since it was on sale for a deal;) Stanley said that they charge theirs for 24 hrs. & the directions say 12 but mine still shouldn't have been so dead. First off, I really like this product. It is well built and reliable. The only one reason why I didn't give it 5 starts is that the light switch is very sensitive and therefore easy to press inadvertently, turning it on, which results in the battery draining. I already reported this to Stanley and hope they redesign the switch. As for the one I bought, I taped a hard-foam ring around the switch, such that it is only pressed when I want to turn the light on. Read more
This review is based on ~8 months of use. Purchase price was $70. This starter pack is useful if you have a car that sits a lot, and you cannot use a float/trickle charger (like at an apartment). I telecommute most of the time, so my car battery does not get charged much by the alternator. I noticed that the battery in my car was no longer zippy (starts up fast when the battery is good), so I bought this starter pack to supplement the car battery. I would use it multiple times before I recharged the pack. The car battery eventually became severely damaged (interior lights were completely dead) due to lack of use/charge and this pack started the car up on the first try so I could get to Sears. Stanley recommends that this pack be charged every month, regardless if it is used or not. After the purchase of a new car battery, the jump pack sat in my car for a while, but still held a charge. It was able to start the car of a stranded motorist after not being charged for weeks. Note that this starter pack cannot run a tire pump from the cigarette lighter outlet as the amp draw is limited to .5amp. Get a different unit if you plan on using it for this purpose. The LED light is quite dim, but better than nothing when you are on the side of the road without a flashlight. Buy a short extension cord to charge this jump starter, as it does not come with one. I bought this when I knew my car was going to be sitting in a parking lot for over a week (instead of my garage where my car is normally parked and driven daily). When I returned, I didn't want to get stuck if my battery was dead. I charged this device up and kept it in the back of my car while I was gone. When we returned to this lot, my car started right up. However, there was a family close buy who couldn't get their SUV started. I ran over and hooked the device up to their battery and their vehicle started right up after that. The relief on their face said it all. The wife wrote down the info on this device and said she was going to order one immediately. Even though I didn't need to save myself from headaches, it was nice to save another family who needed help. I have placed the device in the back of my wife's car (I need to order another one for car), 2 months later, I checked the status of the charging power and the lights indicated that it was still good and didn't need to be plugged in. 1 month review: This jump starter has been great and saved me from being late/ missing appointments several times already. On one charge I can be certain it will reliably start my VW Golf TDI at least 3 times. It starts up so fast its amazing. It's big and bulky but it works better than any other jump pack for rv slide outs. However the button for the flashlight is way too easy to push. I apparently hit it on a regular basis and when I go to use the pack it's drained. It would be 5 stars other than that. The USB button is also been an issue but not as bad as the flashlight.
