Battery issue or dock

I bought this for my husband and he opened it yesterday, and he really enjoys them. I bought them brand new (not used) and everything works fine, The only issue is the batteries for some reason don’t want to register on the dock to charge and just show dead, Yet on mine (which I’ve had for 2 years now) it will register the batteries to charge.
