Unboxing the STURNIUM 3.0 Hoverpen was genuinely impressive - the presentation box is sleek and gift-ready, the kind you'd be happy handing to a new grad, a client or placing on an executive desk. The pen itself has a reasonably premium feel: the aluminum alloy body is smooth, nicely balanced, and the base is solid and heavy enough to feel stable. It writes better than expected too. Smooth, no skipping, more like a rollerball than a standard ballpoint. It includes a spare ink cartridge, which is a nice touch. But my biggest issue is the cap. It’s not postable - there’s nowhere to keep it safe while writing - and once it's off, the pen no longer levitates when you put it back on the magnetic stand. That means if you misplace the cap, the core gimmick of the product is dead. The seller’s image shows the pen floating without the cap, which appears to be misleading. For $79, it’s a cool piece of desk art and conversation starter, but the functionality is limited by a small design flaw. If you’re the type who leaves pen caps lying around, this will quickly turn into a very expensive paperweight. I like it, but I can’t recommend it at full price unless you're buying strictly for display or are very careful with the cap. Read more

Problems: 1) The magnetic capability requires the pen cap to be attached or it doesn't work. The pen cap is very small and hard to remove and put on with one hand, which I can do just fine with a normal pen. 2) The ball is on the smaller side, and writing at an angle causes the edge of the shaft holding the ball to drag on the paper. It doesn't feel very nice to write with. 3) After less than a month, the black ink bled and covered my right hand. That's when I threw it in the trash. Read more

This pen set is uniquely gorgeous! I love everything about it. It comes in a beautiful, classy presentation box that would make this a tremendous gift for the executive, or the pen lover in your life! It is such a unique and beautiful set. There is literally nothing to setting it up. Merely open the box and take it out to position the pen in the middle of the foundation. It also comes with an extra refill for the pen. The color is excellent and works well on any possible desk or decor. It blends in effortlessly and just looks great on a desk! It even lends an additional element of professionalism to one's desk. I even love the writing of this pen. It is at a midpoint in tip size, so it is not thick but nor is it too fine. It seems to me to strike the middle point of tip size. I personally love the feel in the hand. Additionally, the finish on the body of the pen is one that does not make it slippery. It feels good in the hand, and while the pen body is not tactile or necessarily 'grippy,' in its finish, it is quite easy to maintain one's grip on it without dropping it. The base is beautifully weighted, and is the perfect weight to serve as a paper weight to set it onto a few papers that you are wanting to keep track of for your next meeting or engagement. The bottom of the pen set has an excellent type of grippy surface that will prevent it from sliding around if it is bumped or jostled, and will protect even the most delicate of surfaces, due to the protective pad beneath it. The styling of the pen itself is unique in that the body of the pen has what I could only describe as a twist on the body of the pen. The styling of the pen body is appropriately unique in itself and has a wonderfully sleek appearance due to its unique styling. There is a small cap on the point of the pen that covers the exposed point, and that will keep the ink from drying out, since the pen's point would otherwise be open and entirely exposed to the open air were it not for the little cap. I would suggest that this is the perfect gift for any lover of pens, or for anyone who values having an entirely unique pen set on their desk. This pen set is a definite conversation piece and is one that you will definitely cherish. It conveys a very elegant professional image that is top drawer in every way! I cannot imagine anyone not being absolutely delighted with this pen set! To that end, I give this set my absolute highest of recommendations. As a kid I would pour over the pages of the innovations catalog, marking all of the "executive desk" toys I would one day have on my office desk (a Newton's Cradle, a steel ball clock, a levitating pen).
