I use this item for airsoft as our local field requires full-face coverage. The material is similar to what you see in Under Armor and it wicks heat and moisture away well. The mask is not bulky at all, it's as thin as a performance undershirt, but not fragile. This is a great feature when layering and/or simultaneously wearing goggles, a half-mask, and a kevlar helmet. My only gripe is that the eye hole is not large enough to comfortably transition from wearing the mask as a full mask to wearing it as a neck gaiter. However, I have a watermelon head so your mileage may vary. Overall strongly recommend it if you're looking for a one-hole balaclava but don't want to sweat in wool/acrylic. Also, the green color is nice and muted. Well done. Read more
This thing is awesome. It's made of lycra, so you could ball the thing up and stuff it completely inside an old 35mm film cansiter with room to spare which makes it easy to keep anywhere. I have one of those weird useless pockets on the upper arm of my winter coat that this thing tucks into neatly. I've used it twice so far in conditions where the ambient temperature wasn't too cold, but a strong wind was cutting through my hoodie and making my neck and ears cold. It's amazing how such a small amount of material in the right configuration can make you so much more comfortable. It goes on easy and stretches to fit completely over your head and around your neck like a scarf, or you can stick your whole face through the eye hole if you're cold but not currently performing ninja tasks. It fits easily under my other hats or inside the hood of a sweatshirt or coat. I bought a couple more to stick in my glove boxes. I also feel like I need to mention that while this is a product that I would normally expect to have a somewhat rubbery smell to it when it comes out of the plastic, none of the ones I've purchased have any odor at all. Super comfortable to wear—soft material and no poking or irritation at all! There was plenty of visibility, which made it really practical. I used this as part of my Human Spider cosplay, and even wearing it in late July, it wasn’t too hot (though I was indoors at the convention center most of the time). Overall, a great addition to the costume! Read more
Relatively thin, basic, but still strong enough to keep your face (luke)warm and at least painless around 5-10 degrees, when coupled with a hoodie. Also works fine solo, when it's warmer (~20 degrees) when I wear it without the hooded jacket. Retains it's shape and elasticity fine after cold-water washes. Anything below 5 degrees or so, you'd need a thicker one. Read more
Can't complain. Breathability with this balaclava is good and keeps you cool. Quality is up there for sure. Price is solid. This will be used for all kinds of costuming to keep me cool during hot days while out and about. Read more
Perfect for wearing under helment when hot or very cool. I use it under my road bike helment primary; however, it's good for walking, hiking or working out too, when it's very hot or very cool. I love the way it's so light yet it fits very good. I can breath through the material without fogging up my classes. In fact, I can breathe very hard through the material when climbing hills and not have to worry about dust, debri, bugs or insects getting into my mouth... This is essentially a thin piece of polyester, nylon or whatever synthetic fabric it is, and it's not very warm. You might as well just wear a hat with a liner. It doesn't do much to block cold wind on your face, and any hat you wear on top of it slides off easily. I won't be buying another one. Read more
As other reviewers note, this is very thin and lightweight. I don’t believe it is meant to be used on its own in very cold weather. It works very well as an extra layer under a hat and scarf, or even under another, heavier balaclava. So far for me, when layered with a hat and scarf, it has been very effective in the mid-teens F, and in the upper 20s F it was even a little too warm. It is great for all the situations where layering is recommended, and it is so small and light it is negligible to pack and carry, and it is dirt cheap, so it’s easy to buy and carry a spare. It does create a pretty unforgiving hat head, but I suspect once you’ve chosen a balaclava as your headgear of choice, you’ve pretty much made your peace with hat head. Read more
