I hadn't used this type of glide before, I'd always thrown some old rug or cardboard under big pieces of furniture when I had to slide them around the house, and that was typically a bit frustrating. we had a big heavy credenza to move into the house and I knew it was probably going to be a big PITA so I was putting it off while strategizing on the best angle for the job. then a couple weeks after the thing still wasn't where she wanted it, my lovely wife gently suggested that we try these glides out (she knew about my deal with old cardboard and correctly deduced that the delay in getting our new piece of furniture in was due to my slide anxiety and that I'd probably be skeptical of changing my methods... she really is special). I was skeptical of changing my methods to this thing but in the interest of marital happiness, I said "Ok, order the things" (still doubtful). and they came, I (as the official shipping box opener on this team) skillfully slit the tape, took these babies out and put their socks on (Ok, maybe they will work....). I lifted the corners, put them under the feet and started sliding the huge sucker arount the kitchen floor with ease.... I was having too much fun already! after indulging my expert glidy navigational prowess around the kitchen and entry floor for an indeterminant period of time, my lovely wife quietly approached, gave me a loving tap on the shoulder, and simply pointed to the ultimate destination down the hallway. to motivate me further, she reminded me that when we get to the hall carpeting, I would have a chance to slip the socks off the glides and try out their performance with the plastic slippery side out.... how exciting! needless to say, these slippery little suckers performed briliently and I've not had so much fun in weeks!. yeah, change isn't always easy, but sometimes it's the cat's meow! and so are these glides! Had to move a very large heavy armoire across a tile floor and these turned out to be the perfect size. Unfortunately one of the cover pads came off during the procedure. It’s going to have to be moved again when someone picks it up and I will give the pads to the new owner to use with his moving it - if they last through all those moves I got my moneys worth. I’m a slightly flabby woman 29 year old woman of 5’3” and 130 pounds and I was able to move a 350 pound vintage mable top double dresser by myself with these. After moving to a new city a few months ago, and being completely alone, the bane of my existence has been a beautiful six drawer marble top dresser. It’s a lovely piece, solid wood with brass hardware and it’s heavy as hell. When I moved into my apartment, my bedroom was completely finished, and it took three construction workers to kindly move this hulking dresser into my front room. “I’ll just move it in a week.” I was so stupid then. Fast forward a couple of months, and the dresser still sat in the same frustrating spot. I contemplated hiring some people to move it, but I was frustrated by this small task I couldn’t seem to accomplish alone and having to pay people to do something my friends or family would do for free (if I had any, that is.) I tried pulling, and shoving, and tucking aluminum foil under the legs to help it “slide” to no avail. The dresser would need to slide across carpet, shag rugs, and hard wood. Finally I bought these stupid sliders thinking that it was probably a waste of $10. I was so wrong. I was able to lift up the corners just enough to slip the sliders under the legs and off I went! It was shocking how easy it was to push into place! When I came to the hardwood portion, I removed the sliders, added the fluffy covers, and vrooom! Basically if you’re a miserable loser with no friends and a penchant for heavy antique furniture, you need these. BRB- rearranging my entire apartment. Read more
I originally purchased these when we had just moved into a new house and were moving furniture around as we figured out where we wanted it. They made moving even large pieces of furniture easy; they glide really well over tile and wood when using the "fluffy" pads. I haven't used them over carpet so I can't speak to that, but our new wood floors still looked like new after moving furniture around multiple times. Now we are doing a remodel and I have a large media console, a really long couch, and a heavy coffee table that need to be maneuvered as we do measurements and put things in place. I've got them under each of those items so that we don't cause damage to the floors as we move things around and I can move them myself without getting multiple people involved to help. Our builder/general contractor was even impressed; he said they have SO many instances where unnecessary damage occurs because furniture is just dragged across floors without protection. These can save a lot of time and money in fixes. I recommend these all the time, have multiple sets, and lend them out quite a bit. Read more
