Compact, accurate, reasonably fast
Pros: - compact & easy to use - very accurate out of the box - can be easily recalibrated (hold SET then push HOLD and MAX at the same time. Submerge in ice water for 30 seconds, press MAX again to set it to 32F/0C, then hold SET. Done!) - waterproof (haven't tested in dishwasher yet) - seems durable, at least for my use - probe cover can be used as handle extension - simple, industrial look - no bright orange flames or meat grilling tables cluttering the surface. The blue looks nice, the buttons are functional with a sturdy feel Cons: - takes about 3-5 seconds for a reading, but this seems to be the norm with these types of thermometers. It updates fast once it gets to temperature. - display lacks backlight. Not an issue for me since this will extend battery life, but the thermometer will be hard to read in dark places. - buttons might feel a bit stiff to some people. Personally I think they just feel sturdy rather than stiff. Keep in mind they're supposed to be waterproof, so there's no way to make them soft and tactile. I use this thermometer for brewing tea and coffee. It's pretty much perfect for this purpose. The probe is short enough to fit most mugs and gongfu style teaware, without creating an imbalance and tipping things over. I'm sure it works great for poking meat too. Read more
