Early Impressions are excellent. I set up as a basic tv and am using it with Firetv cube 3rd gen (upscaling by Firetv) in my bedroom. My use is mainly for youtube, netflix, prime video, antenna tv. Pros: Great contrast, nice saturated coherent colors, great sound. Brightness is great for SDR content. High quality streaming content from Netflix, Amazon Prime is spectacular. Cons: Viewing angle is not suitable for wide seating, Upscaling of low resolution content or low birrate content is bad. May not be bright enough for HDR content. Great value for sub-700 tv. Never had an 85” before this one so I don’t have anything to compare it to. For the price though, it’s a great purchase. The picture quality is great. Sound quality is awesome. Sometimes feels like I’m at the theater in my own bedroom. That’s until I step into the living room and there’s a 98” TCL on the wall. It’s definitely a two person job to get it mounted to a wall.. I own several TCL TV’s and feel they are a good compromise between quality and cost. Not surprisingly this is a fantastic TV for the money. There is a sub woofer on back of the TV and only an expensive audio system will better this one. The CABLE/ANTENNA input found 71 OTA stations using the same antenna and location as my five year older TCL 55” TV (40 stations). The station menu is superior to any I have seen. I conducted a side by side test using the identical router feed and the video was significantly better on the 85” LED than the five year old QLED (55” TCL) that it replaced. There are two attachment locations for the stands, narrow and wide. The remote has useful options plus some I have not seen on other remotes (Amazon video, Pluto etc). The Google platform is complex and seems to have been written by, for and about their software engineers. There are two options, TV mode and everything Google could think of. Pick your poison. Some Apps available for Fire TV are not available on the Google platform. A FireStick will remedy this. The Google personalized app lineup is poor in my opinion. Individual apps are shown in a long horizontal list and not tabular. System options are too numerous to mention here but most are great; eg the google remote pairs with the fire stick menu and visa versa, etc. There are certainly more expensive TVs and perhaps better quality but this is hard to beat for the money. TV is huge and perfect. The delivery was uncomfortable. It was supposed to be a simple porch drop off. It ended up with two men walking in my apartment and putting their hand out for money and they did nothing for it. I wasn't ready for that. The tv itself is a monster. So big and beautiful. This has been one of the worst and best tvs I’ve owned. Got the tv set up and plugged in, read the instructions, and turned it on. Half of the screen was taken up by random text that you’d see on a computer that crashed and was rebooting. Trouble shot a bunch of stuff on my own with the tv but I couldn’t get rid of the text. Called the company that made the tv and someone helped me go through these steps that got rid of the half screen text. Thing is, it was a 50-50 shot as they told me if that didn’t work than my tv would have been considered broken and there wouldn’t be too much I could do about it. TV works beautifully after that, until they did an update. Now the tv will either not turn on when I use the remote, or will turn on but not boot up. I checked online and I have to unplug it for a minute, then plug it back in and then the tv will work. After doing some research this is either due to a problem with the update, or a faulty part in my tv. I get and I understand not everything will be made perfectly these days, but if I’m spending this much money on something like this, one would think there wouldn’t be problems this early in the life span of said product. This past Xmas, it was an 85 inch or bust upgrade for the theater room. This Tv was the winner given the sale price and my previous experience with TCL. It is a great budget brand and Android TV interface is superior to Roku or Fire. This comes with and upgraded Android experience and the TV itself looks amazing. There is some issue with Dark contrasts, however it's not a deal breaker when you consider the cost. Recommended to anyone on a budget looking for a monster TV. Read more
