Whoever came up with this idea deserves a medal. We needed a protector for under a desk in a carpeted room; but hated the plastic ones with the spiky things on the bottom that leave holes in the carpet. This is perfect. I was a little leery of the whole “glass thing”, but it works great. The desk chair rolls effortlessly on it. It supposedly will hold up to 1200lbs, so I think it can handle a squeak chair and a person with no trouble. Very pleased with it so far. Read more

I got the tempered glass desk mat as part of a promotion for Amazon vine. I chose it because I did need something for my home office that I use, not daily, but frequently. Pros: I do have to say that the sturdiness has exceeded my expectations. I am about 270 lb and have a large office chair sitting on top of it. I do have hard tiled floors in an apartment and am unsure of the evenness of the floor, so having the mat deal with that as well is pretty nice. It looks really nice and does come with some adhesive feet to put on it. Cons: that being said, the mat does slide good amount even with the rubber feet so I will have to find a way to get it to stop slipping. Other notes: In our apartment we to get a bit of dust and cat litter crystals. Both dust and cat litter crystals under the mat sounds like the glass is breaking it first, but it's just the sediment under the glass being crushed so that something unexpected. Overall it's a good choice, but I wish it had a better non-slip device underneath. Read more
My home office is the only room in the house that still has carpet. So it’s been quite a challenge moving about in the chair, let alone pull the chair in or out. It became so difficult that I started to lose interest in using the office and subsequently turned our dining table into an office table - not smart. I’ve tried other mats like silicone or plastic and they each have their problems and didn’t last. This tempered glass mat is so impressive, I honestly don’t know why I didn’t think of it sooner. It’s definitely a great upgrade from the other mats! I knew it was going to be great as soon as it showed up on my doorsteps in a huge flat box! (Beware of this - the glass mat itself is 30”x48” so the box is slightly bigger than that due to the styrofoam packaging material). The glass mat is so thick, it got rid of all my concerns that it may break or crack soon after use. It’s so sturdy and well-made. Once placed on the floor, it stays flat and doesn’t curl or shift around like others do. It's going to be there for quite some time. The surface is so smooth, it’s really easy for my chair to glide across without getting stuck. At the same time, it does a great job protecting the floor or carpet underneath from wear and indentations caused by rolling chairs. The rounded corners are also a nice touch because they make it safer and give the mat a more polished look. It comes with 6 anti-slip silicone pads you can use from sliding around for non-carpet floors. It also came with corner covers and I actually kept those on to prevent the glass getting too depressed into the carpet. It sort of keeps it slightly elevated so the mat is kept even with the carpet in case the chair goes beyond the glass mat. Super easy to clean and love how clear it is. It adds a classy touch to the office. The transparent design also blends in nicely with the room instead of worrying about whether it’ll match the furniture or make the space look cluttered. Sitting on carpet with old padding underneath, rolling an office chair was essentially not happening. Every movement required real effort and the chair would sink back into the pile between uses. The glass mat fixed that immediately. The chair glides with almost no resistance now, and the difference across a full work session is noticeable in a way that's hard to go back from. The build quality is straightforwardly good: 0.2 inches of tempered glass that feels like it belongs in a different product category than the plastic mats it's replacing. Cleaning is a wipe-down, not a project. Spills, dust, pet hair... damp cloth, done. Durability is harder to speak to long-term at this point, but tempered glass doesn't curl, crack, or yellow the way plastic eventually does, which is the whole argument for it. The six anti-slip pads do their job. It hasn't shifted once, which was the main concern going in. The rounded corners and polished edges are a practical detail rather than a cosmetic one — no sharp edges near bare feet, human or pet. Glass is heavy at this size, so placement is a commitment, but it's also going to stay with us when the carpet eventually comes out since it works the same on hard floor. At $74.65 for the 30x48, it's priced meaningfully below where most tempered glass mats in this size start. Comparable options from established names tend to open around $100. For something that will outlast several plastic mats and actually perform better the whole time, that's easy to justify. Read more
