I bought this because it is what the nurses use in my emergency department to triage patients. I feel it Is reliable and accurate. I have 3 young boys and was sick of searching for the other 10 broken oral thermometers that would not be reliable unless I changed the battery and did rectal temp (pediatric age!). With any other temporal scanner I am just skeptical. Taking a axillary(armpit) temps is still a mathematical uncertainty and useless unless it is measured well above fever range by 1-2 degrees. This one is more expensive than others, but when my wife calls me at work overnight with a temp >100.4, I know I can trust it. Granted nothing is perfect. In the ER if this is floating around 100 degrees and the patient is clearly hot to touch then confirmation with oral or rectal (Peds) temp is done for documentation sake...but it is rarely significantly different.A bonus is you can swipe your kids head when they are sleeping without waking them up. Don’t have to worry if they recently drank something cold that would alter an oral temp. Overall, well made, easy to use, will last forever, and most importantly it takes the guesswork out of the eternal question ,”Has there been any fever?”. Read more
To the 1 star reviewers: this is a hospital grade instrument designed for hospital use. -- i first saw this device IN A HOSPITAL where they had a fleet of them in use (in NYC). for infants, it was important to me as a new parent to have an accurate temperature reading option that didn't require obtaining a temp via rectum. IT IS VERY VERY ACCURATE. as such it requires PROPER TECHNIQUE AND PRACTICE to get proper readings--initially it is harder to use than a standard thermometer. it is intended for professional use where training is provided in a hospital setting--i spent 4 days while in hospital stay reading literature about this thermometer and talking to nurses who were using it on my wife and child daily. for instance this device needs to be used SLOWLY across the forehead. in fact i was shocked to find out that i could buy it from amazon. also it has a LIFETIME warranty from the company. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. modern technology at it's best. takes a 9 volt battery which is brilliant. very easy and straight-forward to clean. comes with a DVD tutorial which apparently some users find lacking...or didn't watch [?] Read more
Absolutely terrible. I haven’t had it 6 months, it’s highly inconsistent, now it will only read error on the screen, extremely disappointing. Don’t waste your money Read more
This is very accurate. The device scan for the highest temperature while you’re holding down the button. I recommend holding down the button while hovering the device over the important spots like the behind the ear for around 8 to 12 seconds. You can hear when the device is finding higher temperature spots. When you stop hearing clicks close together, you can let go with the button. Read more
We have been pleased with this thermo. We have had it for about a year and a half and it still works great. We first tried the cheaper Exergen model that you can buy at Walgreens, but it was the most inaccurate thermo I had ever used! This is way more accurate; if you are going to go with a temporal thermo, then definitely spend the money and get the professional model. We love it because the kids actually enjoy taking their temperature and we can even take it while they are sleeping without bothering them too much. You do have to periodically clean the sensor off with rubbing alcohol to keep it accurate or it will start to give you low temps, but this is really simple and takes about 15 seconds. Read more
I think in this case the price says it all. This is a very expensive thermometer that is generally used by doctors and hospital (which is why we got this one). Ergo - you get a high quality thermometer. Yes, you need to take some time to learn how to use it properly (meaning: one evening), but then you're ready to go. We have had many different kinds of thermometers, this is the only one I'd recommend. Especially when you have children. This is the only one that lets you take their temperature without waking them up! Good product! Read more
Very consistent readings, easy to use. This is the same device they might have at your doctor's office, and is not a piece of garbage. You get what you pay for, although I suspect this product could be sold a lot cheaper and still be profitable.... Read more
