You hold the metal part (sensor) of theromometer close to the middle of your forehead, push and hold down the thumbsize button, with your thumb, as you slowly sllide it across your forehead in either direction to either hairline. Then you let go of the button and immediately read your temperature on a large enough easy to read screen. It is quite accurate. you may get a silghtly different reading on the one side of your forhead than the other, but it's so slight, it doesn't matter. This is a very accurate thermometer. After use, you can push the button again to shut it off, or you can leave it the button alone and the thermometer will shut off automatically in 30 seconds. The price is a little steep but in the times of COVID-19, it is a good investment to keep in check you and your family for any signs of fever. Read more

I ordered this thermometer after hearing commercials for it on the radio. I regularly take my own temperature, and I have had difficulty finding thermometers that are accurate. If you look, most are rated to read only within plus or minus 0.5 degrees F or worse. I have tried many that seem to be about 0.7 degrees f off or more. This one seems to live up to its billing. While really made to use on others, I found it fairly easy to scan my own forehead. The reading showed up clearly on the screen. It read within 0.2 degrees F of my old reliable Becton Dickinson under the tongue thermometer that has not been made in a long time. I don't have any way of directly calibrating the readings. Nevertheless, I have found the BD thermometers to be very close to the readings I get at my doctor's office, and this Exergen is the first one I have seen that reads very close to the old BD one. This thermometer does require contact with the forehead. But only a light touch scanned across one side of the forehead for a few seconds. This seems to be the device for those who really want accurate readings. Read more

We have used one of these for several years and after temporarily relocating, leaving the thermometer behind, we recently purchased another for our family of 5 (ranging in age from pre-school to mid-forties). Once you get the sweeping motion down to maintain consistent contact with the patient's forehead as you use this thermometer it provides consistent, quick, accurate results. The memory function has been handy as we have been able to go back and double check readings or recall earlier results to see the trend. A solid little unit that does the basics well. Read more

This is an expensive thermometer, but let me tell you, it's the last thermometer you'll ever need. We had half a dozen thermometers before I bought this one, but none of them worked to our satisfaction. They were inaccurate and difficult use. In this time where it's important to know whether or not you're running a fever, it's important to have an accurate thermometer, so I finally bit the bullet and bought this thermometer and I don't regret it one bit. It's easy to use it, no sticking it in anyone's mouth and spreading germs or having kids bite it. No inaccurate readings telling me my temperature is 95 degrees F, etc. I highly recommend this thermometer! Read more

Didn't want to wrestle w/ my kid while trying to take temps in his armpit. Didn't want to put anything in his mouth or worse places. This is easy to use after a few test tries, it's easy to read, kinda finicky taking more than one temp in a row, but it works. I'm just not 100% sure how accurate it is aside from it shows different temps on different people around the same time. Read more

This is hands down the BEST and most consistent thermometer we have! We have a (no touch) forehead thermometer and the Braun ear thermometer. Pre COVID we had the ear one, and initially it did the job but after a few months we started to get inconsistent readings. The forehead one gave better readings but when you have a sick kiddo and are getting 2 different readings from 2 different devices, it's a bit frustrating and stressful to say the least. We bought this thermometer based on the reviews and I AM SO GLAD WE DID!!! It's been consistent every single time, it's easy to read (both during the day at at night, it's easy to use (we say "we're practicing like at the Dr's office and the kids love it"). It's been nothing short of amazing. If you're debating on whether or not to get this, GET IT!! You won't regret it :) Read more

Overall I like the thermometer. It works differently than most temporal thermometers, but is easy to use once you read the directions. The big downside and I do mean big) is the access to the battery case. It is near impossible to get it open. I notice there are quite a few reviews that mention this problem. Believe them, because they are very accurate. We have two of the thermometers and they both have the same problem with the battery case access. Even though I like the thermometer overall, I would not recommend it to anyone because of the battery case problems. I would not buy another one, myself. Read more

The thermometer is pretty easy to use and gives pretty accurate readings when used the right way. The most annoying part was accessing the battery compartment which took me some time to figure out and some elbow grease. However, now I feel like it is not a manufacturing defect but a feature. Why? I bought another thermometer which had easy access to the batteries. Guess what? My 14 old month child figured that out also, but there is no way he can get to the batteries for this one. Read more
