This is basically deadspace in play style, theme and length. (It’s also from the same makers) Pros: - amazing fantastic graphics!! - excellent story - excellent acting - excellent monsters - killing enemies feels very fulfilling Cons: - very sluggish controls. Takes a lot of getting used to, but once you get used to it, it’s ok. - no new game+ - really hated the dodging mechanic. Recommend you turn on auto-dodge! - you can’t really run away from enemies (and this caused me a lot of grief during the boss fights) - not enough boss fights! (Add more in sequel plz!) - there’s one particular monster (and you’ll know it when u encounter it) that surprises you, takes precious points off your life and there is NO WAY to prevent the event from happening! You won’t spot them and you can’t kill them in advance. It’s basically a very cheap, unavoidable life drain as if the game wasn’t hard enough. Consensus: Worth the buy. Looking forward to my 2nd play through at the next difficulty! Read more

After over 130 hours played, I can say this game is an all around gem for the PS5! The graphic and attention to detail are stunning. Sound is spot on. The comabt is engaging, has depth and is satisfying. I love the addition of melee comabt to what I thought would be a mindless shooter. The complainers about the combat system on this game havent played long enough or become proficient at the comabt system. After becoming proficient you can string together devastating attacks that use ranged, melee and "grip" attacks. It's a beautiful way to destroy enemies! It's incredibly satisying! The story isn't anything special, but who cares? The developers listen to the players and have made changes where appropriate. All glitches and failures have been fixed since release. Since it's December release a lot more has been added to the game. Highly recommend. One of my all time favorite games. Read more

The Callisto Protocal is not a bad game, but its not great. Trying to be like dead space maybe its downfall, but at the same time, it could have been more like Dead Space and be better. Firstly the combat is lame. Its pretty much dodge, dodge, swing melee weapon- rinse and repeat. Guns feel crappy and I only use them occasionally. If the shooting would have been like dead space, this game would have been much much better. The graphics are excellent and I had no visual issues to report. Sound design and the environment are great as well and create a good horror atmosphere. Story is ok, but like I said, it tries to copy Dead Space a bit in this area. Overall not a bad game but if you are holding of for a better horror game, get the Dead Space Remake. Read more

This is a really good game and story. It's very like the Last of Us, to me. Combat takes a bit to get used to, but once you get the hang of it, it is very satisfying. It's not scary, but the creepiness is fantastically done, a la LoU. I did encounter a bug which erased my save mid-way through, and removed all of my weapon upgrades, but I was given back all the credits, so I was able to reaccomplish and get back to where I was in little time. Voice acting is very good, facial emotions are spot on, and the gore is unrelenting. Excellent game. Read more

Oh how I wanted to like this game more than I do. The good: graphics are good, load times decent, story starts off pretty strong. Guns are pretty good. The bad: Clunky mechanics and controls, better figure out the dodge timing early on. graphics good but are they getting the most out of your PS5 ? I don’t think so. On the easiest setting resources are ridiculously difficult to come by. Credits are few and far in between and the really good upgrades cost thousands on top of the thousands you’ve spent to get to that upgrade level. The problem is that the average enemy spits out 20 credits and you rarely find “big ticket” salvage you can sell for…1,000 credits. By the end of the game I had one gun maxed, and finally got the cool homing ammo that is used against you very early in the game. Most of my stuff was in early upgrade tiers. I painstakingly looted. Oh, and don’t waste time trying to loot anything but enemies you’ve defeated (there are bodies everywhere) and chests. I’d say there are a couple dozen small boxes to break, and half as many proper chests. Heads up: if you use the GRP glove to toss enemies into spikes which are inexplicably everywhere, chances are good you won’t be able to loot them. Of course this is the easiest way to defeat enemies and it’s a real trade off. You basically have to use this tactic in many areas because if you are facing more than two enemies, they are simply too powerful and you’ll likely die. Can’t skip cut scenes. Makes it tough to replay and enjoy those weapons you spend so much time on and invariably will still have multiple upgrades available. Hard. I found this game to just be unrewarding in its difficultly. The juice isn’t really worth the squeeze. Get ready to play the same scenes over and over. The save points are set up where you have to perform the same looting actions to then get to the main attraction, die again, do it again. The worst curse of some survival horror games and it’s here in spades. Tough to recommend it although it’s generally interesting and you’ll want to like it. It’s a challenge on “easy” so if you like a game that requires early mastery to finish, repeating areas numerous times and melee combat because there aren’t many bullets or guns- this is for you!
