I have carpal tunnel. I had it in my right hand 4 years ago, and this type of wrist band was the only thing that helped until I eventually got surgery. I am now having issues with the left hand, and was wearing my old band. I am so glad that I found this one! I have been wearing it and it really does help with pain and numbness. Runs a little small, but may stretch out over time. The right glove has a small tear on the inner thumb area. Otherwise a comfortable glove with some compression. I'm not sure what the gel pad is for; I assume it gives a little cushion, which I like. Hand-washed once and is still in good condition. This compression device fit me perfectly and seems like it would easily fit others whose hands are a little larger or smaller. I feel instant relief every time I put it on. The compression is overall soothing to my thumb, wrist and the base of my palm. But the gel pad seems to be perfectly positioned to provide an extra boost of comfort along the base of my thumb.
