SURPRISINGLY WONDERFUL ENTERTAINMENT! A MUST BUY!

Julius ForteJuly 18, 2007

Okay, yes, I know. I'm giving high praise to a Hulk Hogan movie, or actually three Hulk Hogan movies (all from the same series). I'm a grown man with lots of degrees, a family, a wonderful life as a public school teacher in a respectable house, with children, a loving wife, and two dogs and a budgie. So that said, this is high praise indeed. The Thunder Collection is made by the same blokes who created Baywatch, which was a huge hit here in the UK, but frankly I never understood (except for the obvious treat for the eyes). However this Thunder series is a true joy. Colorful, fun, clever, amazing production, wonderful music, and what I would call a great escape. And isn't that what this is all about? The first in the three-play can be a bit confusing since it gave Hulk a wife and a different daughter. But it is still great fun, and has the wonderful contribution of our own alumni Patrick Macnee (he's in all three actually). The second really sets the pace. The best of the three, (though I love them all) The duo of Hulk and Chris Lemmon, Carole Alt's charm and beauty and the incredible production values makes this perfect winter time viewing (how delightful to see the blue skies, hot sun white sands and attractive woman wearing as little as possible!). I've been pleasantly surprised to read so many other reviews which seem to agree with me, since I thought I was going to be a fan in a land of curmudgeons. But I guess we are all the same under the sun, and know great entertainment when we see it. Excuse me if I echo some of the thoughts of the others here, but it's worth repeating. You can also watch this collection again and again, and if you have children... it's perfect for them. The action is more bombastic than bloody, and the use of Hulk's daughter (that is, the actress playing his daughter) in the film gives the movie a great "attitude" for kids to watch and feel apart of the adventure. The dialogue is amazingly clever, characters well drawn out (as mentioned before Bru and Spenser's "food tasting trick" in number 2, on a prison guard is indeed a down right classic, and their comic timing is as good as any of the folks from the Ocean 11+ movies. As said before, special attention should also be taken to one of the most exciting and hysterical chase sequences, up and down the Middle East buildings, culminating in a delightful "back and forth" with Bru and Spence, right up there with the "cliff jumping scene" in "Butch Cassidy". Also, Ms. Alt shows a wonderful comic timing. She is a gem! I'm sure there wasn't a very big budget, so I really was astonished at how "big" the movies look. Third one, literally blows the lid of... what with a final scene (not a spoiler, I promise you), where they blow up an entire school! In a world bereaved of shout-em-out entertainment for the whole family, this is a treasure. Really! And it should be a part of any collection where one wants to pop something in the player that's going to make them smile, laugh and be transported to another world for a few hours... it truly is like a ride at Disneyland, without the lines, nor the entrance fees. Just a fun nostalgic 90s action flick starring Hulk Hogan

ArmyStrongMDOctober 22, 2023

This is a movie trilogy, but I’ve only ever seen the first movie. There’s also a TV show I believe, that I’ve also not seen. I bought this in my search for the original Thunder in Paradise movie I remember renting for $0.99 in the mid 90s. I will watch parts 2 and 3 at some point but I’m sure they’re terrible. “Complex carbs, kick in like rocket fuel.” This movie is 90s bliss. Ridiculous fighting scenes, zero knowledge of the laws of physics. Hulk Hogan and his Navy Seal buddy cruise around in their little high tech speedboat that conceals a cavernous interior with full standing headroom, a jet ski bay, and a microwave for the Hulks frequent meals. Bad writing, bad acting, ridiculous action scenes, but if you’re a fan of Hulk Hogan or cheesy 90s action movies (I love both), but it while you can! Read more

It’s mindless entertainment

DADecember 22, 2024

I forgotten about this show but it was something I watched infrequently as a kid but often enough to have remembered a lot about it. The show is over the top with Hogan acting only in one way: explosively aggressive and over the top way to handle problems. Most of the show is about some random bad guy doing some random thing that ranges from kidnapping to world domination. Everything is unbelievable and over the top ranging from the everyday life where beautiful people spend all day on the beach playing and doing nothing. Then the boat is over the top where it’s capable of going anywhere in the world and back in less than a day and the interior of it keeps changing sometimes even mid episode. The boat computer voice is so over the top and ridiculous that it sounds like how a teenager would try to pretend to have a manly voice. As you can see I didn’t reviewed anything about the dvd episode because there isn’t a story at all. Just over the top silly action that is resolved with violence and nothing else. I think Chris Lemmon blamed this show for his lackluster acting career. Chris plays Hogan trusty sidekick but honestly Chris was just as over the top as Hogan was and he’s supposed to be the smarter person in the show. Now being a grown up myself I see this show had a lot of potential especially as a family show. They could have had the action sequences but they could have made the bad guys seem at least a little believable and could have made some important family points. Hogan could have taken down his over the top acting down a notch and perhaps been a bit more authentic when it came to issues, especially ones his daughter faced. Which again was over the top. They switched out the daughter but growing up I thought he got a new one not that she was supposed to be the same character. Apparently she’s not really Hogans child and the show didn’t really explain this whole thing which again made everything unrealistic and you couldn’t connect with any character. Overall a funny show. I recommend it. Read more

Thunder in Paradise series

rdaaamgApril 26, 2015

I love this series it brings two great actors together to play friends that help fight crime while they are trying to raise a child. Two ex-Navy SEALS who work as mercenaries in their Florida Gulf Coast tropical resort have adventures and use a high-tech futuristic boat whose nickname is "Thunder" to fight crime and get the villains where they belong. They have to balance their dangerous undercover work so that they can take care of the daughter of one of them since the girl's mother died leaving her only with her father. While they are working the girl is watched by a friend and her uncle who owns the beach resort is usually the comic relief. This is a great series wish it could have gone on longer. Read more
