The price was scary but this was a special gift so I took a chance. The look and feel of the material are very nice. It sure looks silky to me but, I couldn't tell silk from satin or something else. I can tell you that this robe made an impressive gift, which was the goal. I ordered the correct size, which, unfortunately, was much too small. (It's from China so maybe that has something to do with the sizing?) The return process was the usual "Amazonian" (ie, easy and free) so you might take the chance and try one at home for yourself.
