It’s a Hard Drive. Try to Contain Your Excitement.

Ah yes, the Toshiba 1TB 5400RPM 8MB Cache SATA Hard Drive. Take a deep breath. I know—try not to get too worked up. It's a hard drive, people. Not a puppy. Not a pizza. Just a good old-fashioned spinning disc of mild enthusiasm. Let’s be real: nobody’s throwing a party because they bought a 1TB 5400RPM drive. There are no unboxing videos with dramatic music. No Instagram selfies with the caption “#HardDriveLife.” It’s not glamorous. It’s not thrilling. But you know what? It works. You plug it in, and it spins. It spins at a breakneck 5400RPM, which sounds impressive until you realize that’s basically a grandma in a rocking chair compared to SSDs. But hey, if you’re not trying to launch a rocket or edit a Marvel movie, this thing gets the job done just fine. It holds a full terabyte of whatever digital clutter you treasure—photos you’ll never look at, videos you’ll never delete, and probably 38 copies of the same file named “Final_Final_V2_Revised_REALFINAL.doc.” And that 8MB cache? Oh baby. That’s eight entire megabytes of lightning-fast buffer power. We’re practically in the future now. So yes—it’s a hard drive. It stores stuff. It spins. It exists. It’s the beige wallpaper of tech components. But sometimes, that’s all you need. Five stars, because it hasn’t exploded, caught fire, or questioned my life choices. What more could you ask for? (Try to stay calm.) Read more

its part of my raid

I gave it a five star simply because once reformatted (file size reasons) it slotted into my raid with no issues - as for how long it lasts and other questions who knows (it replaced an older smaller hdd that I was having misgivings about) the price was right (ok I'm a bit nervous about cloud storage and willing to do the tasks to keep a raid viable) Read more

HDD bad from the start

I purchased this drive to replace the stock HDD for a Unifi Cloud Key 2+ (UCK2+) which is the exact same drive. I use it for recording security camera footage. When I installed this "new" drive, everything work fine at first. However, once the drive filled up, my UCK2+ crashed and I had to factory reset it. Once I did that, it was showing a drive warning and that I should replace the drive. I removed the HDD and put it into a USB HDD enclosure to connect it to my laptop to get more details. As seen in the photo, the Current Pending Sector Count (CPSC) value is sky high (5960). You can also tell that it only has an Uptime of 196 hours. This compares to my existing HDD which had a CPSC value of 368 with an Uptime of 24,974 hours and I've had since 2019! That value of 368 was still enough to give me warnings to replace the HDD. Earlier I referred to this as a "new" HDD because the Manufacture date is 07March2018, six months older than the HDD I replaced! Not very new for a HDD ordered in May 2023. Unfortunately, I didn't install it as soon as I got it and it didn't cause issues until it was filled up so it is past the return window by less than 1 week. Also, Toshiba offers a 1 year warranty but that is also long past since it's been sitting on a shelf somewhere for 5 years. This was sold by Zephyr USA. Read more
