The mechanism makes it a little heavy but not too much. It fit perfect in my wife's on the go purse and it has withstand some speedy winds when took to the beach. Once, in a florida heavy downpour with some wind it flipped over but the structure resisted. So I think it delivers. It's an okay umbrella. I've used it in the rain and in the sun. It keeps the rains and sun off. The main thing I dislike about this umbrella, though, is that it's really hard to get the velcro thing around the umbrella when I'm trying to close it. This umbrella is of a slightly stiffer material than a regular umbrella and it's slightly bulkier. The velcro thing that holds it together when closed is not quite long enough to close it easily. I rarely leave reviews. I bought this umbrella for a vacation. After only one use, it broke. The metal is very weak and the umbrella totally bent out of shape from a slight amount of wind. It's also very hard to open but I would have lived with that. By the time I returned from vacation it was too late to return it for a refund. I was offered the option of a new umbrella.
