I've tried out many suction mounts for magsafe devices. I decided to give this one a shot for two reasons. First, I like the "tough" aesthetic, and second, I was intrigued by the option to mount this on the back of the display in our car. Let me cover the positives. The suction, which uses a lever to create / release the vacuum, is very good. Of course, YMMV depending on the finish of your dashboard (or whatever surface you attach it to), but I've had some vacuum mounts which surprisingly lost suction overnight on my desk, which has a flat smooth surface. This one seems to have very good suction in comparison. The mounting point (a 17mm ball joint) allows for nice smooth adjustment to the viewing angle. However, a couple things were disappointing. First, despite the "tough" aesthetic, the magsafe portion of the mount feels lightweight. It's all plastic. The rubberized portion, while centered properly, doesn't have the text and logo aligned with the head itself. These are cosmetic issues, but they nevertheless didn't quite meet the expectations I had for it. Functionally, though, I also had some issues. If you are hoping to mount this to the back of your in-car display, you will want to check that it has a completely flat back panel. I didn't check that, and it turns out that ours is curved with no flat section that is larger enough for the suction cup of this mount. Furthermore, the design that allows mounting on the back of the display - a sliding hinged bar that allows you to face your phone in the same direction as the suction cup - limits the mount's usefulness on the dash and on the windshield. My wife doesn't like stuff on top of the dash as it obscures her vision. The design of this mount doesn't allow you to position your phone below the top of the dash - it must go on top. And the design doesn't give you good options for windshield mounting either, given the slope of most windshields. The hinge on that sliding arm is nice and tight, though, and the bar is ratcheted so it's not sliding around unintentionally. And I did end up using the vent attachment, which works fine but is unremarkable compared to all the other vent attachments that I've had. So, if you plan on using this mount on top of your dashboard or desk (or if the back of your in-car display is flat), the suction this one has will make it a good solid contender. Since that didn't work out for me, I am thinking about using this like a keyboard arm/drawer except for my phone, mounting it to the underside of my desk - there may be other cases that will make the sliding hinged design quite useful. It works, but it will only sit on a flat surface. My biggest complaint is that the magnet phone plate doesn't lock in to place tight enough. And the direction it says to slide to tighten is incorrect. Also, the mount arm doesn't stay tight in place either, so you can't really adjust the height. Overpriced for its effectiveness. Read more

I liked this mount, it was pretty versatile. Mounting it was simple enough with the suction cup. I never ended up using the vent mount since there were no usable vents within easy reach in my car, but that one may be the better way to use this. The metal hinge on the suction cup mount got too loose to be usable after about 2 weeks, now it just flops around with zero resistance. No way to tighten it back up, just rendered totally unusable. I recently received the ToughTested MagTough 3-in-1 MagSafe Car Mount Phone Holder, and I must say this device works incredibly well. This phone holder only takes seconds to install. I used the suction cup holder for my application. You do have to attach the magnetic phone holder part to the ball joint adapter first, then attach it to the suction cup frame. After that, just push the suction cup onto the windshield, or smooth surface of your choice, flip down the lever and you're in business. The suction mount is incredibly strong. And the magnet hold is even stronger, if you could believe that. It holds my phone in place, no matter the condition of the road or pothole I run over, my phone stays in place with nothing to worry about. It's extremely adjustable so you can place this holder anywhere and still see your phone at many different angles. The adjustments are nice and firm as well, so you don't have to worry about your phone turning away from you by itself. It holds firm in whatever position you leave it in. Also, you don't need a magsafe phone to be compatible with this holder, because it comes with a metal ring (circle magnet), that makes pretty much any phone compatible with it. As long as you place the metal ring on the back of your phone, you're in business. I have a magsafe phone with a case on it, so I placed the metal ring on the back of my case, actually I glued it down because the magnetic holder pulled it off on the first day. But ever since I glued it back on, it's worked flawlessly. And the magsafe charging still works as well. And the best thing about this magnetic phone holder is the build quality. It's very solid, it's adjustable but very tight, nothings loose. Seems like mostly metal construction. I'm just very impressive with this holder. Overall, this is a wonderful magnetic phone holder. I rated it 5 stars because I can't identify a single issue with it. It's extremely well made, and preforms as good, if not better than you can expect, especially for its price range. Not to mention it comes with a vent mounted phone holder as well. I guess so you can give it to a friend.
