A really nice steel! You could spend more, but why?
I am pleasantly surprised by the heft and apparent craftsmanship of this honing steel! Ignore the reviews that say this is not a good sharpener. It is not a sharpener at all, it is a honing steel, for touching up the edge on a knife between sharpenings. It does that job very well. No honing steel is going to bring back a dull edge. When the steel isn't working well anymore, use a sharpener to bring the edge back, then hone with the steel to razor-sharp before each use. Plenty of videos out there on how to do each process. The 8" length is fine for all the knives I use, up to 10" chef knife. There are plenty of more expensive options out there, but I don't see how they could be much better than this. Read more
