The zipper works smoothly...it is plastic... like the entire bag itself. The clear front is nice quality thickness and the body is another type of plastic woven to resemble fabric which feels strong like a light canvas. There were no strange odors which I appreciate since I was putting my clothes in it! I copied my older USA-made garment bag and added a thick cardboard bottom cut to fit, which keeps long items from bunching up.
