Cheaper, but not equal to OEM
This generic Purifriz water filter appears to be exactly like the OEM Culligan filter at about 1/3 of the cost each, and it installs in the FM-25 (similar to FM-15) mount that we have without any issues. During the initial 10-minute flush, I typically use low flow for the first couple of minutes, increasing it a little at a time to full flow during the last two minutes. I do this to allow the filter media to compact better, and it also conserves water. However, unlike the OEM, the filter pull-on switch would not hold at a lower flow for this generic filter. The switch would only remain on at a much higher flow, which means there is no resistance in the media to produce enough pressure to keep the switch engaged. I compared the dry weight of the unused/dry filters (without the packaging boxes and labels, and with all components equal), and found that the OEM is 130 grams, and the generic is 100 grams – that’s 30 grams less filter media in this generic filter. I switched back to OEM because I don’t want high flow – I want good filtration. Read more
