I installed this to the bottom of an adjustable height desk to run USB3.0 from my computer. The 3' cord provided was not quite long enough to work so ordered a 6' cord. I have a couple of devices connected to it under the desk and added a dual-port extension to bring two positions to the top of the desk. So far it is working out. I teach college level computer art courses via video chat on my laptop which only has two USB ports. I've been using this device for about three months now and it hasn't let me down. I have attached my HD camera, microphone, speakers, a secondary screen, a drawing tablet, an external hard drive, and a spare slot I sometimes use to charge my phone. It has a nice, rugged build with a metal exterior so I don't have concerns about it being damaged if I need to move to a different location. All of the ports are USB 3.0 so it has reliable speed of data transfer for my external hard drive and clean video from my high definition video camera. If there is one drawback it would be that, in addition to plugging into your computer's USB port (obviously), you will also need to plug this into a power source but I feel like this is to be expected of a device that provides seven ports AND fast charging. I've purchased two of these units. The first one worked well for a couple of months before one of the ports failed. At first, I wasn't too concerned since six ports remained. However, within a week, another port stopped working, and a few weeks later, I was down to just three functioning ports out of seven. Because I had permanently attached the first unit to my desk and didn't want to drill additional holes, I ordered a second unit. This one has been functioning well for over a month with no issues. While it's possible my troubles with the first unit were just a fluke, and I hope that's the case, the experience has been mixed. I like the design of the product, but with a 50% failure rate on the initial purchase, I cannot recommend this product at this time. It appears to be well built after a small hiccup. When it arrived I quickly started to test it. Right from the start, I was using Hdtune software to benchmark the performance. I was receiving a "Read Error" from the software on every port that I tested. I switched flash drives and the same result occurred. I surmised that it could possibly be a bad cable that it came with the hub, so I tested the hub with my own usb 3.0 cable. Low and behold, everything worked like it should have. I quickly contacted the company about the issue. After informing them of my testing process, they decided to send me a new cable. In a about a week I received the new cable and all was well. To be fair, this can happen to any company. Even quality brand cables can have this happen. I haven't used this hub, except to test it, but hopefully it will be a real performer. A side note is that when I tested it, I lost ~30mbs drop in performance over plugging straight into the motherboard. It's not critical for my use, but using it for a hard drive it may be an issue. I'm wondering if people who purchased this hub and had problems, if their problem could be the cable. Just a thought. This hub is causing me headaches now. It only works with included ac adapter. Windows can not access flash drives until you use the ac adapter. There are times that it just plain doesn't work. Sent it in for replacement and they sent it back saying there is no problem. They told me that my Pc could possibly not be putting out enough power., which sounds good, but I tested the ports and it seams like the power is fine. I bought a pcie usb card with additional power port and the hub is connected to the hub, and the same problem exists. I had purchased 2 of these and both have a problem with accessing devices. I bought these for a joystick assembly. I used some 20x20 aluminum to mount a pair of high ending joysticks onto a thing I could use to mount and remove them from my desk easily. This lets mounted easily and accepts USB3 and power so minimized my cable mess. It does get warm, but not alarmingingly. Has given me zero issues. Works on Linux with no special drivers. Read more

The hub turns on, it accepts USB connections, and then immediately drops, fails to reset, or suffers from a multitude of other errors under Linux even with only 1 device and the included power cable plugged in. It's a USB hub, so I'm disappointed it doesn't appear to do USB. All devices work fine as long as the hub is not involved. As another review mentioned, it says 3.2 Gen 1 in the listing but 3.0 on the packaging. That part is actually actually fine, 3.0 got renamed 3.2 gen 1, they just didn't update the packaging to reflect the change. The build seemed fine and I was excited to be able to mount it properly somewhere rather than have it floating, but since I can't get it to even perform with 1 device when I needed it to use 5, it's nothing more than a poor paperweight.
