i have two connected to my mac mini (in addition to the larger monitor). These monitors can be connected via either USB-C or HDMI. If you use HDMI, you still need to supply power via USB-C. Originally, I though the HDMI monitor was faulty because I could not increase the brightness to 100, but it was the USB-C power of my mac mini that wasn't supplying it enough power; once I used an external power supply, it worked fine.
