Similar to more expensive commercial coffee makers
The Bunn-style office coffee maker if probably familiar to many, and this unit will do what those machines do for a lot less money. It is not as well made as a commercial example, but I think it will hold up ok as long as it is treated with some care. (Shared office coffee machines have to endure a lot of abuse, and this one probably wouldn't survive long in that environment, but if handled better it seems like it would last a good while.) Each carafe holds ≈2 quarts (or liters), and they don't fill as fast when brewing as you might expect. The timing is probably comparable to using a Mr. Coffee-style brewer; this unit won't offer you a speed advantage over those. The water boiler draws 1,500 Watts while brewing, and each burner pulls 75 Watts or so (according to my measurements). That's similar to a hair-dryer or a microwave, so you probably won't need to worry about your wiring. That said, 75-150 Watts is quite a bit in this LED era, so you might want to invest in a thermos or two for the brewed coffee. Read more
