Update after 3 Winters: For the price, this is an amazing coat.
Update after 3 Winters with this coat: everything below still applies, this is a great buy for the price! Recap: amazingly warm and functional coat, but I would not use for sporting activates like snowboarding or skiing. I've been wearing it for about 3 years in 10-35 degree temps in the US Pacific Northwest. For the price it's an amazingly warm coat. I wear it mostly while walking dogs on night walks when its between 15-25 degrees and in snow/rain, and I usually have to unzip it half way through because it's so warm. Pros: - Very very warm. I could see this working well in sub zero temps Completely blocks wind and completely water proof - lots of pockets for storage, an the pockets are very large - materials on the inside are comfortable - The detachable hood is oversized and great at keeping snow from my face - Combing the zipper all the way up and clasping the hood will cover everything securely but my eyes, and the hood keeps my ears warm without a beanie. To me this is the perfect hood/face cover - The elastic extenders from the arms have thumb holes to keep the sleeves from rising when you stretch your arms. I use them over my gloves and like it. My cons are really comparing features of jackets 4-5X the price...so not really cons at this price level: - No vent. This coat tends to get too hot so I unzip it, but if it's windy then I'm sweating on my back but cold wen the wind gets in. This would be important for skiing/snowboarding. - The fit is a bit off. i have the right size, but it's wider in the chest than the waist, which makes yo able to feel anything in the pockets. I'd much preferer a looser fit in the waist. - Not flexible at all really. You can move in it fine walking around on a regular basis, but if you need to move a lot, like sledding or boarding, this will hinder your movement. - The arms could be a little longer. I'm only 5'8" (so not long arms) and when I stretch my arms the sleeves come up to my forearm. I I have the elastic hand sleeves around my thumb, just having my arms down at my side will pull enough to be a little uncomfortable. Like I said, my cons are features you'd find in coats designed specifically for cold weather activates, so at this price point, I feel this is an amazing coat and would by another one for every day cold/wet weather use is needed.
