Zero leaks - works perfectly! We've been using this water filter replacement for months now with absolutely no leaking issues. Installation was straightforward, and it fits securely. Clean, filtered water is essential for our family, and this delivers without any mess or problems. The price is much better than the brand name option. Reliable performance means we can trust our fridge to provide safe water for the kids. Great quality! Read more

We have been buying these filters for 5 years for our GE rip off fridge. We took the sticker off our original filter and stuck it to the area in the fridge filter housing where the old filter lined up with the sticker. This made it so the fridge detects the chip and allows any generic non chipped filter (RPWF) to work in the filter housing. The only downside is that the fridge thinks it’s the old filter and stops counting at 99 and shows to replace filter. I have a repeating every six months appointment on my phone calendar to remind myself to replace the filter. This has worked perfectly. I have been very happy with this brand of filters. They fit perfectly and have never leaked. Our water is filtered through a water softener that removes most of the sulphur smell but the water sometimes smells like petroleum and this filter clears out that smell and the water and ice tastes great. I see some folks complaining that the filter doesn’t fit or the connection is different from GE’s, since it’s been years I don’t recall exactly what they changed on these in the connection portion that makes it look different however it still works in the filter spot of the fridge. Installing is always a pain because you have to move everything out of the way in the fridge and it’s awkward to try to twist the filter in, but GE is who designed the awful set up and it has nothing to do with the filter. If you’re not convinced or a little weary about getting this filter all I can suggest is that you buy 1 and give it a try the cost is a lot less than GE and you can always return the item if it doesn’t work out or throw it away you won’t be out too much money. My experience is that this filter is A++++. Read more

I decided I didn't like the filters with the chips so I went on YouTube to find a hack. Lo and behold, there is a great hack that takes a little time to do, but once done and you install a permanent "bypass chip" in the location inside the filter holder, you can use these less expensive filters. Note: If you choose to do this hack, your refrigerator water dispenser will show "no filter" but you will know you have a filter. ;) There is an additional hack that I did, where you remove the board (yes, a little more work, but only have to do it once) and put black electrical tape over the light that displays the "no filter" image. All of this information is free to find online and will save tons of money on those expensive chip type filters. I highly recommend this product. Read more

Our tap water is nasty. I mean sulfur smelly nasty. I have a dead animal stuck in the line nasty. I have two TDS meters. One is a "cheap" version. The other is of good quality and reliable. Straight tap water shows 178 average on my both of my TDS meters. After this "Filter" the cheap TDS meter shows 154 while the quality one shows 171. The readings are fairly consistent and may go up or down 1 or 2. The only difference is the smell of death isn't as bad. I can't put much faith in a filter with suck lack luster performance. Maybe I will need more extensive filtration to drop the TDS lower. Read more

Reviewing after 1 year. Works great. The NSF 53 adds filtration level to my whole-house NSF 42 filter. This RPWF has same dimension as RPWFE, with the only difference being lack of the RFID tag. Whose only purpose is starting a timer and prompting warning message on the display unit. I followed instruction in the top-rated 1-star review found under authentic GE RPWFE filter (unfortunately Amazon sunk that review to bottom as it does not help their money-grab business) Basically I glued the factory Bypass RFID tag over the reader, dissembled display unit and used black tape to cover the humiliation. It was a one-time 30 min job. If your display unit is a color, "smart" screen, then this mod cannot be done. You can still use it and get same water, if you don't mind the on-screen humiliation. Can replace a RPWFE filter with some work If you are like me you bought a GE refrigerator, just to find out GE is now adopting a printer ink model for consumables. RPWFE filters are the exact same as RPWF filters. Except they are over double the price and have an RF chip. It allows GE to price gouge their customers. If you have a RPWFE filter, and want to use the cheaper RPWF filters in perpetuity you can do the following: Get a filter bypass plug. (GE offers them for free) Dremel out the section with the chip. Open the panel behind your water filter. Stick the chip in there over the RF sensor, making sure the orientation is correct. Never worry about expensive filters again. There is a message that says "Not Filtering", since the fridge thinks the bypass plug is in. Otherwise everything works fine. It was a little difficult to get the filter to seat, and I had to give it a small clockwise twist. It went in eventually though. Read more
