The Waterman Carène Ballpoint Pen is beautiful and fits comfortably in my hand. My wife loved the look of it, so I bought her the fountain version for her collection. Marine amber is really a beautiful finish. I am highly satisfied with this pen. Read more

I am speechless!! The aesthetics of this LOVELY writing instrument is ALLURING. The weight and feel of it in your hand is PERFECT. Additionally, the smoothness of the ink once it contacts the paper is like spreading melted butter on a roll. SIMPLY CAPTIVATING!! Read more

O.M.G.! I am so loving this Carene. I hesitated and the price was not low but I think overall what a great decision it was when I decided to buy this. amazing fountain pen! Of course I had my eyes on the Waterman expert and the Waterman hemisphere fountain pen as well. But having the Ici et La waterman fountain pen, I thought the 'hemisphere' was on the same level, so I left that one out, but I will probably get it later. In the meantime, as i was narrowing my selections and had my eye on the red carene, I decided to buy the black with the gold rim, and in addition also get the Waterman "expert" with the silver rim. so for both I paid $247 including tax (! bummer) but I am loving both of these pen. Totally different from each other. Now in the reviews I read that many people found that the 'medium' nib was a little on the 'broad' side for the carene, for me, I like medium and have always bought the medium nib fountain pen, but this one is a tiny bit wider, and so it is ok with me, not a big deal at all. With a wider head/nib there will be a little more ink used, and the spacing will be affected, but the flow is amazing, the pen is running so smoothly on the page, I am loving it, and carrying both with me at all times right now.. till the fever subsides. Great quality pen, great workmanship, you can see it when u remove the barrel look at the inside at the junction where you add the converter, and it speaks volume, My only regret is that I could not afford the red or the blue or the white as they were out of my pocket range! ##Pen## 1) I bought the black&gold style with a F nib. The pen writes very smooth. The balance of weight gives a very pleasant writing experience. The unique design makes it a must in my pen collection. It is even better than I expect from the pen review videos. 2) After a few days writing, no ink leakage or any messy. I fully inked the pen by the default converter. ##Quality## The batch I got was made in 20250106. The mini booklet includes instruction and warranty, which agree with all the unboxing YouTube videos I browsed. The nib head and pen tail is well aligned. In case that it is not, you can search tutorials to make it aligned which is very easy to do. ##Purchasing Experience## 1) I gave a 4-stars because I at first received a used pen for many obvious reasons. For example, it contained massive blue ink. It was very likely it was once fully inked. A factory dipping test expectedly contains some ink but definitely not this big amount. 2) The warrant paperwork was also strange because it is simply a multi-folded paper instead of a mini booklet. So I asked for a refund. I suggest you also make unboxing video as I did. Now the second purchase gives me a good one. 3) Pay attention to the seller. Mine was directly sold by Amazon although the invoice said the pen was supplied by “Others”. A direct sell from Amazon is good as it ensures a satisfying refund/replacement. A purchase from specific sellers and Amazon International would give some risks based on the refund policy. 4) Buying a “Used” pen that is labeled and sold by Amazon Resale is also suggested because the price is drastically reduced (40% to 50% off) while the condition is expected to be good. Based on my experience and observation, I believe Amazon Resale’s description is honest and Amazon does not resell the returned items with the original price. 5) Early 2025 is a good timing to buy either the black silver or gold F-nib because the silver version has recently changed to the green “In Stock” since Jan 2025, and the gold version is restocking since Feb 2025 (although slowly). They have high chances to be new pens to be supplied to Amazon which ultimately go to buyers. In contrast, something like “2 left” (from either Amazon or some independent sellers) would be a red flag to me. Read more

I am new to the fountain pen world but must admit I have amassed quite the collection to date. Waterman kept coming up over and over again as some of the best fountain pens and I will admit I dismissed it as fanboyism. Am I glad I was WRONG! I purchased the Carene in black Sea. The pen is GORGEOUS. The nib which I was on the fence when I pulled it out of its beautiful presentation box made me pause I prefer broad nibs and assumed this would be more of a fine than a medium. WRONG again! This is a medium which feels like more of a broad. To say that I am happy would be an understatement. If I could, I would buy these in EVERY single color. The Carene feels, writes and looks like a premium fountain pen. I now understand the love that the fountain pen community has for the Waterman fountain pen line it is well deserved. Part of me wants to make this my EDC another part of me wants to set it up in a shrine. This is the kind of pen that makes a superior gift and would put a fountain pen lover over the moon. Not enough wonderful things can be said about this pen. Read more

Poor product quality. Bought this pen last year. Within six months the gold ring around the cap disconnected, and now the pen will not reassemble correctly - you must unwind the end of the pen opposite the nib to access the plunger to refill ink, and the pen will not completely reassemble. It appears that the assembly within the pen body is loose and spins. It is so disappointing. I have written with fountain pens for my entire 50 year professional life, and I have never paid so much and been so disappointed by such shoddy workmanship. Its the last Waterman I bought and the last one I will ever buy. Of -- the nib is nice, but you can only enjoy it if you can figure out how to write with it without it disassembling in your hand. Complete and total disappointment. Garbage. Read more

Excellent workmanship, and I like the heft and design. Inserted the supplied cartridge and began writing. Glad that I also opted for the fine nib. Read more
