The market for IPL devices designed for hair has rapidly expanded in recent years, and there are now a large number of options available on Amazon. Having personally tried many of these IPL devices, it's clear that most work pretty much the same, with only minor variations setting them apart. When it comes to hair removal, the most significant discrepancies typically revolve around power (wattage of the AC adapter), ergonomics (device shape and button placement) and the inclusion of "ICE" functionality, which actively cools the targeted area during treatment. This particular unit falls within the mid-price range, incorporates ICE Cooling functionality, and performs reasonably. Specifics of this IPL device: ** Only performs hair removal ** Includes ICE skin cooling functionality ** LCD screen shows the number of flashes left and power level (1-5), plus whether ICE auto auto mode is on/off ** Rated for 48W (medium power for a home IPL) ** Oblong shape ** Rated for 999,999 flashes By utilizing slow-motion photography, I managed to capture a snapshot of the light lasting approximately 1/100th of a second (refer to the attached photos). Keep in mind that the duration of the light emission is extremely brief. When using the device, glide it over the area from which you want to remove hair, ensuring that you expose all the hair follicles in that particular region. Immediate results will not be noticeable. The light emitted by the device sends signals to your hair follicles, prompting them to cease growth. However, it will require multiple treatments spread over several weeks before noticeable results can be expected. Over time, you should observe a significant reduction in hair growth in the treated areas. In the box, you get the tool, a power supply, a cleaning cloth, a pair of eye protection glasses, a cheap disposable razor, plus instructions. Ice functionality is another term for "Local epidermal cooling." This is local cooling of the epidermal region (surface skin) in the region where the IPL light pulse is being applied. The high-powered light can be irritating to some people, and cooling the skin in that region can reduce the immediate irritation. Epidermal cooling is not required for efficient use, but it may make it less unpleasant to use the device for some users. This IPL device is reasonably priced, given the features. There are cheaper units, but this one adds the ICE cooling, and is powered by a 48W power supply, which is better than the lower power usually associated with low end units. Those benefits help justify the somewhat higher price. Summary: Pros: ** Integrates epidermal cooling (ICE) ** 48W power supply ** LCD readout ** Reasonably priced Cons: ** Some may not find the oblong shape as convenient as a gun shaped unit. This is my first at home IPL hair removal device and it is working well so far. The unit is very compact such that it can be left on a bathroom counter without taking up too much space. The controls are straightforward and there are several different options for intensity and for automatic versus manual. Ive been using it for a few weeks now and I am definitely recognizing slower growth. It is important to be consistent with this device otherwise results may not be seen. The cooling feature makes the experience much more comfortable and the goggles ensure that your eyes are not exposed to the bright light. Overall, it seems like a solid option for IPL hair removal. I have been using the Always IPL hair remover by WaveTalk faithfully on my arms for 3 weeks now, and can say I do see fewer hairs. It's not all gone, but what is growing back does seem to be lighter (possibly too light for the machine). This fits with my previous experiences with IPL, but is a couple weeks faster. I'm not sure if that's because I've done it before. I do know that the Always is much stronger than my previous IPL machine. It comes with everything you need, including a good guide to at home IPL. (Best explanation of why shaving is required that I've read - basically if you have any hair above the surface it will fry that and never reach the follicles. I use an electric shaver on the more tender areas, but that may slow down results.) My favorite features are: Ergonomic shape - makes it super easy to hold, even at weird angles. Automatic mode! I'm done so much faster. Cooling plates - I can go up 2 levels of intensity higher just by having the cooling on. Quiet - it's so quiet I can use it while my baby sleeps in the next room Like all IPL it will find every mole, every missed hair, every dark spot, and it will hurt more in those areas. Other than that, it's painless for me. I will also note that my post-partum chin hair is woefully untouched - but as they note in the guide, facial hair will likely take longer because it's so stubborn. Overall I am very impressed. It's not going to get me hairless, but it'll make it less noticeable. Read more

This thing is awesome and has definitely cut down on shaving. You do have to be super consistent with it which was difficult at first, but it's great once you get into a routine. I found that shaving one or two days before using this was better and made my skin less sensitive, but my sister didn't have any issue with it, so it's kind of a per person issue. I've seen a pretty dramatic decrease in hair and am down to very little on my legs anymore with this. I also love how compact it is! I just keep it on the bathroom shelf to use whenever, and it doesn't take up a ton of space like my previous machine. Read more
