Normally, these WD Enterprise drives are very good drives. I have several that I uses for backup because they're fast, but more importantly, made to extreme high reliability standards. HOWEVER, beware of this particular seller! When I opened it, I noticed something odd: the label on the drive did not have the yellow stripes and did not say "Enterprise-class" like my other WD Yellow drives. While it works fine, reading the other buyers' comments leads me to wonder if this is a knock-off and not a genuine WD drive. Read more

I've just installed a bunch of these in my new FreeNAS box. So far they work great, but for drives like this it's waaaaay to early to say whether they live up to their specs. There are much cheaper versions of 6 or 10 TB drives; I spent the extra few hundred to get that "runs forever" promise. With an MTF of 2.5 million hours under load, these drives should last the decade or so I plan to use my FreeNAS system for. So far, no complaints. Plenty fast and no technical issues thus far. My particular HD was provided by PCH Micro. When it arrived it was defective, loud grinding and Bios wouldn't recognized. Contacted both PCH and WD. While PCH did respond with an offer to replace when I checked their web site they did not stock this item or for that matter most of the items they listed on their site. WD on the other hand responded to my e-mail to their customer service in two hours. Using the serial number they verified it was under warranty, and authorized the replacement. Upon receipt of the deflective HD, WD shipped the replacement on the same day. I got it 3000 miles away on the second day. With customer service like that I will always buy WD products. Read more

I'd recommend that you run each of these drive's serial numbers through WD's warranty check when you receive them. I just tried to RMA one that failed after the return period and its not eligible for warranty because it was sold to an OEM reseller for integration in equipment: "NO LIMITED WARRANTY-C40". Read more

This hard drive model by Western Digital is extremely fast and reliable. We have about 240 of these drives in my company's datacenter running for many months now. High transfer rates and zero failure rate so far. Our purchasing department will be buying more of these to replace other drives in our array. Read more
