10TB model review. HGST are makers of the best drives on the market today. Let me qualify my definition of best only extends to failure rate, which is the lowest in the industry. I only buy this brand. There may be faster brands on the market but I've never officially tested to be sure. They are constantly reading and writing in my system without a break and my oldest one(3 years) is still going strong. You can hear them making their marks but it isn't loud enough for me to complain. I use SATA connections and it always shows up when I plug a new one in. Read more

EDIT: I am changing my review since I have purchased 4 of these drives. Due to the controversy over the warranty, I input my model number/serial number into the HGST website for warranty coverage inquiry. I received a "Warranty is provided by SELLER" in reply back from HGST. I then have asked repeatedly if ServerPartsDeals will warranty these and for how long with NO REPLY SO FAR. If I receive one I will change this review. However, I am disheartened that they have not felt the need to answer. I think if they won't even answer the question now (when I can still return 2 of them) what will they do 1 or 2 or 4 years from now? I therefore reduce my review from 5 (for the drive) to 2 (for the sellers lack of warranty response). ORIGINAL: what's not to love. It works perfectly. I transferred my entire library of TV shows to it and have 1TB left over. I have 1 - 10TB drive instead of 4 - 3 and 4TB drives. It was always a pain to move multi-GB of data from one drive to another to keep things in order. I spent hours every few months to clean them up as I added to them. Now everything (from the first 4 drives) is on 1 drive and I don't have to move anything. Indeed, I will be selling my 3 and 4TB drives to pay for this and I will buy more in the future. Quiet. Cool running. Fast. Indestructable. I have had 16 Hitachi drives running 24/7 for 3-6 years with not a single error on any of them. To say I am sold on these drives is an understatement. So. Purchased this drive, got it, then stress tested it for about 5 days. Passed all tests without issue. Attempted to plug it in with standard SATA power, and no luck. For some reason they pinned out the power for this refirb drive in a non-standard way, so you HAVE to use the included Molex-SATA power adapter. For this reason, I cannot use it in my HDD expansion bay on my tower server. I certainly do not like this. Will not be purchasing any further drives, unless this issue is fixed. Other than all that, its been running in my home NAS UnRaid server as my Parity Drive, with no issues so far. The Warranty is nice, and as far as other reviews have said, the warranty is quick and painless, which is a plus, though I have yet to attain personal experience. Read more
