I have used Western Digital drives for many years, and prefer them highly over the other large drive manufacturers. I have had over the years, with all sized of WD drives, from the smallest 1G to the large 4TB, virtually no problems. They perform well, always, and are dependable. Now it is the truth that many people believe that in time all hard drives will eventually fail, but mean time between failure for most all WD drives is very long, as I have found (and I have used and sold many of these drives over 20 years) the WD drives to last longer, perform better, install with little effort, can immediately be initialized using Windows Drive Management, then formatted or partitioned and formatted as desired. The price is good on this drive and I recommend it to anyone. Read more

bought this to expand my xbox ones storage space. great deal, great drive. i wasnt sure if it would work out of the box or not, which it didnt actually. the xbox one wasnt able to format the drive for some reason. i believe somethig could be done on a pc but i dont own one, so i started thinking. i got the idea to try plugging it into my xbox 360 to see if it worked on there. to my suprise it was able to reformat it to be used for 360 games. after that, pluged it up to the xbox one and it formatted. been using it for well over 6 months and only ran into ONE issue recently. being a 7 year old drive its seems to have an issue with being used on multiple consoles. im assuming its a slight firmware glitch (not a pc guru so ignore my jargon knowledge) or something, because it never had an issue untill i brought it to someones house and tried using it to play my games on their console. at first that console wouldnt even register the drive. restarted it a few times and swapping usb ports made it work eventually. but then it was still acting up and wouldnt load the games i had. eventually it did. but then it was doing that same thing when i brought it back home to my console. im going to reboot it and reinstall my games but its over 200gb on there and my internet isnt exactly quick (average of 10mb/s) so ive been puttin that off. then it started acting normal again so i dont know. darn electronic gremlins messin around with my stuff i guess. anyway, assuming you keepnit connected to YOUR CONSOLE ONLY, there should be no issues. i highly suggest buying the Unitek usb 3.0 to sata III cable. its 9.99 and its black with a red light on it for reference. keep in mind you will need a 12v power source for this as well, and ive found that some round dc plugs dont quite fit in this cable so keep that in mind also. I have an SSD boot drive and picked up one of these for some extra storage. It's quieter than I expected (almost silent except for a barely audible whirring noise), especially mounted in the basement of a an NZXT s340 case, even though there are no shock/vibration mounts and it's screwed straight into the metal hard drive cage. I haven't heard any hard drive noise even over the sound of my low-speed case fans.I have always had very positive experiences with WD hard drives in the past, and I expect this one to be no different. They're my go-to brand for magnetic storage, and I'm happy with this purchase. Read more

It's a nice little hard drive, my other drives malfunctioned so I bought this for now and my computer has been functioning pretty well. The speed is a little slow which is why I am docking one star but it is worth the affordable cost for a basic hard drive that runs an OS. Read more

I bought an old Vista PC for an old HP photo scanner that is irreplaceable and whose drivers didn't update past Vista. The PC was noisy and I was getting an error message frequently that said the boot disk wasn't found. After trying other suggestions, I ordered this hard drive, a HD Duplicator and backup software to create a system image since Vista doesn't. My PC runs like a much newer computer now. It runs very quietly and hasn't had an error message since. I read some reviews about problems with their disk but you can defective products anywhere. Almost everyone has a return period. Read more

I installed this in an older Dell Optiplex GX280. I did a clean install of Windows 7, 32 bit and all is good again with my older Dell. This update was done to build a dedicated machine to digitize family photos and to distribute to out of state family members. I wanted a large enough hard drive for all of my photos and videos I hope to preserve. I also had some RAM in my scrap box and added it to the pc to up 1 GB to 3 GB. Though the pc is online, the main purpose is to be a dedicated pc for the above purpose. Read more

Thought I was buying new. It was manufactured 6 years ago but appears unused. Its also slow as molasses..takes at least 5+ minutes of the drive pinned at full speed before its usable. I've looked at the controller drivers, but they are the latest. Using this as a OS drive, probably going to either return it, if its worth it, or use for storage. Crystal Disk marks it as ~85MB/s R/W. I bought this because I have another WD 320GB that performs great. Just took a look at it, its a WD3200KS from 2007 with 16MB cache. Guess that extra 8MB makes a big difference. I am not totally unhappy, but not thrilled with it either. Read more

Western Digital (WD) Caviar Blue 320 GB (320gb)... Sold By: Western Digital I bought two of these for my archiving and back ups. They arrive in anti static bags and have to be initialized to see them on the computer. It is easier on an XP machine than on WIn freaking 8, but I did get it done. the drives are quiet, fast and responsive. I have NO NEGATIVES for this review, thus the 5 STARS. I think this is a good general drive. If you have a specific purpose, read up on the drives uses, marked by the color name, this drive is a BLUE, I believe there or 4 colors to the series. I purchased them because the price was very reasonable. I would recommend this drive. I DID NOT receive compensation for my my unbiased review. Read more
