Wicked Edge Venture - WE20 Hand Held Angle Guided Portable Sharpener

The Wicked Edge WE20 Venture knfie sharpener was received quickly...and immediately put to good use. It is very easy and intuitive to use, and quickly restored my go-to kitchen knives to a sharp edge. I would highly recommend this innovative and technically proficient knife sharpener to anyone that would enjoy an inexpensive, simple and effective knife sharpener. I have used the WE20 on many different types and lengths of knives with equal success on all. The WE20 sharpener is precision injection-molded in high quality engineering materials and is extremely well designed. There are four different angle guides available (15, 17, 20 and 25 degrees) so that pretty much any factory blade edge angle can be sharpened. The only negative Amazon review I see claimed he got a 3D printed version, which would indicate he got a poor unauthorized knock-off and explain his issues. Only buy from Wicked Edge. I hunt and camp a lot, so I wanted something small that I could toss in my backpack. The WE20 is perfect for my needs. I used it on my kitchen knives as well as my daily carry Spyderco Delica and a Ka-Bar. After heavy use, including processing a deer with the Ka-Bar, it brought all my knives back to a solid working edge in a few minutes. This sharpener shines especially for field touch ups. It is fast, compact, and the guide takes all the guesswork out of the equation. I'm used to whetstones at home, and this is a way quicker method to learn. This Made in USA, by the innovative Wicked Edge people, really gets a sharp edge by using a good diamond 500 grit plate. My ceramic hone may have some minor imperfections and does take more finesse to make a good stroke, though it does the job and will become easier with experience. Note: I am not an expert by any means. Having a leather strop already treated with polishing compound, and the angle guide for the strop is so nice. Curiously, there is no lengthwise play when the ceramic is chosen, but the diamond side exhibits maybe a millimeter when slid with a finger. I don’t think this matters in terms of performance. Within the angle guide, there is Velcro-like loop material helping to maintain a consistent angle. This must help but one still needs to be mindful to maintain consistency of the stroke. It is strongly suggested that knives sharpened for the first time with the Venture have a Sharpie marker color the working edges. This will allow the inevitable minor re-profiling to be completed most accurately to match the nominal 20 degrees movable sharpening guide. It would be interesting to try the optional (offered by Wicked Edge) sharpening plates, and even get different angle guides for knives needing it. Know that the serrated knife in the picture was only lightly sharpened on the non-serrated side, but it did the trick. Does the Venture take a fraction of the time to get a great edge compared to my decades old Lansky jig sharpener? Oh yeah; especially after the first time establishing the right bevel. Makes knives very sharp. Those one star reviews are not legitimate because there is a breaking-in process to the diamond plate, and if one is not experienced, and not willing to learn, then of course frustration… Watch the videos. This sharpener is lightweight, elegant, and simple to use. It keeps the blades at exactly the right angle so that my cheap discount-store knives are just as sharp and hold their edge just as well as my chefs’ knives. This sharpener is everything I was hoping for and more. I knew that it would be a great product because it's from WE, but the fact that it's sub $50, it light, AND you can remove the carriage and store it between the frame is awesome.
