I bought 2 of these for 2 of my nephews - ages 13 and 11 as a Christmas present. I didn't see them on Christmas, but my niece was getting married on New Year's Day. I thought it may be interesting to bring the presents to the wedding (so they could finally get their gifts) and bring ingredients to make ice cream. Sounds like a crazy idea, I know. But, I have to tell you what a hit it was with the kids. I put the ingredients into the ball, along with ice, and the kids rolled the ball around on the carpeted floor for about 45 minutes and made pretty good ice cream. It started out with my 2 nephews and the circle grew to 10 kids before it was done! They had a great time and enjoyed some home made ice cream. The videographer and photographer came over to see what was drawing the crowd; and, the bride came over as well. She thought it was a super idea - one that was fun and kept the kids busy for a while. This item is cute but not practical at all. It leaked a little from the ice door, so I had to tighten it. Then later I was unable to get the door back open. Half of the ice cream was like thick cream, the other part was frozen but impossible to get out. I had to use a very long spoon to chip out the ice cream in the bottom. I wanted to return the item, but YayLabs said I had to talk to Amazon; Amazon didn't have a return "button" for it. If I can't return it, I just made two $15 ice cream sundaes. Read more
I purchased this as a gift for my adult son and his girlfriend and we tried it last week. The vanilla soft-serve ice cream was good (melted fast) but rolling it around on the kitchen table for 10-15 minutes seemed like forever and for the amount of ice cream it made it didn't seem worth the time. I realize, however, this is meant more as a "toy" for young children and I can see it be fun for them - especially in a camping situation on a picnic table, etc. Would certainly keep them entertained. We used "the ball" tonight. We used the best ingredients and followed the directions. Total of 40 minutes of rolling, two loads of ice and a midway stir. The result? Ice cold lumpy cream. We had fun, but not sure we will do it again. Hi. I liked the ice cream,but when we were finished making the ice cream it turned out thin and I liked thin but it wasn't the way we wanted it to be. For the longest time, I've wanted to try unsweetened ice cream. Not just sugar-free, but with absolutely no sweetener whatsoever. I wasn't able to find this in any grocery store, so I decided to make my own. The ice cream ball is really easy to use, and a lot of fun. I don't have a whole lot of time to go outside and roll it around, so I'm sitting here rolling it back and forth with my foot while I work with one hand and chow down on delicious ice cream with the other. The only reason I'm giving it four stars rather than five is that it leaks a little. The cream compartment is nice and watertight, but the ice compartment has been dripping salt water all over the place as the ice melts. I'm not too worried about it, though. Purchased this item for something fun to do with the grand kids when we go camping. The grand kids could not wait to try it, so we made our first batch tonight. I really was looking for a small ice cream maker. This product was small so, that fit the the bill. It took a lot longer to make the ice cream then the instructions said. It was hard to get the hardened ice cream off the sides of the can. All in all, it was a great idea but, not what I had hoped for. Read more
I bought this ice cream ball for my four year old sister. There is not much to say other then it gives you the result that you are expecting when you follow the instructions. Only I have to warn you that it takes a long time for it to freeze which is understandable; therefore I would really recommend to buy a pint instead of the next size which is a quarz because if it takes about a half an hour to make this one work I doubt that anyone would want to wait for longer, by the time you ice cream will be done you would not want it anymore. So if you definitely want to try it, this is certainly the ideal size. Read more
