I've now accepted that I need reading glasses to read. However, because I only need them to read, I almost never have them on me when I need them. That's the beauty of these folding reading glasses. They are so compact, that it's very easy to keep one in my car, one on my nightstand, and one in my bag. It's an engineering marvel that the way these fold up. These folding glasses are great for tossing in my bag or leaving in my car. They fold up very small and come with a carrying case, but are easy to unfold and look stylish when worn. These tiny folding reading glasses are just so ridiculously clever and endlessly cool. Using them in the restaurant for the first time in front of friends yielded a whole lot of “PLEASE tell me where you got those!” They are so compact – even in the case, they take up just a little more room than a Zippo lighter would. Take them out of the case, unfold at the bridge, extend both bows, and that’s it. The nose pads are metal and attached to the frame. They are perfectly comfortable to wear, and the vision/script is accurate. The colors are described as black, gold, and silver, but I believe this deserves clarification; The black frames are a matte black, while the other two frames have a shiny finish. The silver color is exactly the silver I was expecting. The gold, however, is much more of a rose gold, and a little less masculine looking than I prefer. One pair was difficult to get in and out of the case, but I realized they had been inserted backwards and once I flipped them around, they were fine. I wouldn’t typically suggest reading glasses as gifts, but if you know which reading level your loved one requires, these would make amazing stocking stuffers. Great value, too. Highly recommend. I am terribly nearsighted, so often read with my glasses off and the reading material only 3- to 4-inches from my eyes. There is a natural magnification with nearsightedness so to my eyes there was not much difference between my regular glasses and these reading glasses, however there was a slight magnification that may be useful, especially with smaller type sizes. My spouse, who has more normal eyesight said there was a marked difference in readability using these glasses. I suspect I will need to use them some more to get a better feel for them. As for the construction, they appear to be strong enough to withstand daily use. The way they fold down to such a small size is impressive. The sides telescope down to fit inside the width of the lenses and the bridge folds to the entire device is the size of one of the lenses. They fit into a small case lined with a felt-like material. The closure of the case is held with a magnet and is effective. I can see the convenience of this clever foldability. These can fit easily into a man's pants pocket or a woman's purse, even a small clutch bag. Optically, the lens seems to be of average quality, neither poor nor outstanding. They are certainly far more convenient than taking out a magnifying glass for reading something, so they have earned a place in my own over-the-shoulder bag that I usually carry around. These are not the best for that. Instead these are amazing because they’re *portable*. They fold up into a tiny case and take up almost no room in your pants pocket or a small purse or bag. That’s the benefit. Sit down at a restaurant and pop them out of your pocket for a quick read of the menu. Boom - that’s what makes these great. Pros: * super portable and convenient to carry * great for reading a menu in a dark restaurant or similar short-term use * fits in my pocket without jamming into my leg when I sit down… similar to carrying a car key fob with 1 or 2 extra keys on it * nice 3-pack of colors * decent price (~$7/pair at review time) Cons: * not designed for long-term reading or computer work * slide down my nose due to metal nose pads and straight temples * lenses get finger smudges from folding and unfolding them Earns 5 stars because they’re so well designed to be portable and stylish and actually work!
