The land of Doln is a realm of wonders, where magic weaves through the air and ancient secrets lie hidden beneath the whispering trees. Between the thriving kingdoms of Terrell and Smolic, Doln flourishes. It is a paradise of glistening rivers, towering forests, and creatures long thought to exist only in legend. But none are more coveted, more powerful, or more magical than the unicorns. For centuries, Doln’s rulers have upheld a dangerous lie... that unicorns are extinct. The creature's survival depends on secrecy, for their horns hold power beyond imagination. It is a power that could heal the gravely wounded, prolong life, or protect the world from darkness. Should the greedy learn that they had not been hunted to extinction, they would stop at nothing to claim the unicorns' magic for themselves. Princess Mila has known the truth since childhood. Astra, a unicorn with a mane of molten starlight and eyes that gleam with the wisdom of ages has been her beloved friend for as long as she can remember. Their bond is unbreakable. But when situations threaten to separate her from her unicorns, Mila must choose to find a way to continue to protect the creatures she loves, or risk defying her father and possibly throwing the kingdom into the shadows of war. As darkness looms and ancient powers stir, Mila will discover that her fate is intertwined not just with the unicorns, but with an evil that will force her to come into her own. Perfect for fans of lyrical fantasy, deep lore, and enchanting friendships, Mila is an unforgettable tale of courage, magic, and the choices that shape a kingdom. From Readers Favorite 5-star award: (by Christian Sia) ....Eileen Sheehan’s book reminded me of some of the compelling elements in J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series. She has combined the awe-inspiring magic of the Harry Potter world with the dazzling beauty of the physical landscapes of The Lord of the Rings, delighting fans of the genre with exciting imagery and an irresistible world. The characterization is stellar, and I was particularly intrigued by Mila, exploring her inner world and her bond with Astra. The impeccable worldbuilding plunges you into a world of magic and mystery. At the same time, the skillfully crafted premonitions create the suspense that keeps you turning the pages. I greatly enjoyed Mila, from the exquisite writing to the fully drawn characters and plot-propelling conflict, and I look forward to the next book in the series. From Readers Favorite 5-Star award (By K.C. Finn) ... Author Eileen Sheehan knows how to pack magic into every tiny detail and new surprise of this story that captures the imagination and the heart from the very first page. The best way to describe this novel is ‘wide-eyed wonder’, as readers follow Mila with that same expression of enthusiastic discovery. She’s certainly a courageous heroine you’ll root for all the way through. Sheehan does a great job with dialogue and close, personal narration to let us into Mila’s struggles so that we sympathize with her plight, but there’s also a lot of love, laughter, and joy. It’s refreshing to read a fantasy that is so full of happy moments despite the magic and danger occurring, and fans of unicorn lore and epic fantasy will find Mila utterly enchanting. Some quite powerful themes build subtly and come through very strongly at the end: at its heart, there is a thoughtful and lyrical story about loyalty, legacy, and the cost of truth in a magical world. Overall, I would certainly recommend Mila to fans of brilliantly penned fantasy fiction.

Build Your Functional Skills One Idea at a Time
Russ Olsen
Behind every programming language lies a vision of how programs should be built. The vision behind Clojure is of a radically simple language framework holding together a sophisticated collection of programming features. Learning Clojure involves much more than just learning the mechanics of the language. To really get Clojure you need to understand the ideas underlying this structure of framework and features. You need this book: an accessible introduction to Clojure that focuses on the ideas behind the language as well as the practical details of writing code. Clojure attracts developers on the cutting edge and is arguably the best language for learning to program in the functional style without compromise. But this comes with a steep learning curve. Getting Clojure directly addresses this by teaching you how to think functionally as it teaches you the language. You'll learn about Clojure's powerful data structures and high-level functions, but you'll also learn what it means for a language to be functional, and how to think in Clojure's functional way. Each chapter of Getting Clojure takes a feature or two or three from the language, explains the syntax and the mechanics behind that feature so that you can make it work before digging into the deeper questions: What is the thinking behind the feature? And how does it fit in with the rest of the language? In Getting Clojure you'll learn Clojure's very simple syntax, but you'll also learn why that syntax is integral the way the language is constructed. You'll discover that most data structures in Clojure are immutable, but also why that leads to more reliable programs. And you'll see how easy it is to write Clojure functions and also how you can use those functions to build complex and capable systems. With real-world examples of how working Clojure programmers use the language, Getting Clojure will help you see the challenges of programming through the eye of experienced Clojure developers. What You Need: You will need to some background in programming. To follow along with the examples in the book, you will need Java 6 or new, Clojure 1.8 or 1.9, and Leiningen 2.
